Are you wapanese?

Quite simple, do you consider yourself being a wapanese, or do you just have Japan related interests?

1st of all, why the Hell, do you think i am an idiot, if you don't like the question, don't answer it!
2nd thing- god damn it, i wish i could make you answer for your own words in the real life...

lpdirufangirl09 06-10-2007 02:45 AM

well, after viewing that, i'm still kinda saying yes. but i so totally understand the wigger comparison. but i don't try to be Japanese. i understand that i am white (french, british, and lebanese, to be exact). i am just a big fan of the japanese culture. and kids at my school who are Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean, or any other Asian ethnicity, they dont' really embrace their culture. and i've never understood that. ever since i can remember, since i was like 4, i've been obsessed with Japanese culture. but i guess they're just like me...only opposite.

All wikipedia type sites are edited by common folk such as ourselves. Teachers where i live are starting to downgrade reports and projects if a student uses wikipedia for this reason.

Kuroneko 06-10-2007 04:09 AM

Wapanese isn't that you like Japanese a lot. Its more or less the white (generally American) version of an Otaku ( fan boy/girl) heres a better explanation.

haha never mind

And No I don't consider my self Wapanese. I more of a lover of the Language and culture.

YaksokuDa 06-10-2007 10:22 AM

Japanophile actually means that you have a strong interest and knowledge/scholarship in one or more aspects of J-culture (same as Francophile, Germanphile, etc goes to their corresponging countries).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanophile

Wapanese, on the other hand, is a person who idolizes everything about Japan, believing that the grass is greener there and the sun shines brighter, that is why one will try to be as similar to Japanese people as possible... quite oftenly, taking it too far and becoming an exile of their own culture. The term "wapanese" (White + Japanese = Wapanese) has been typically used on Americans who tend to be/ act like they were Japanese, but recently this label is being attached to people from all over the world, who have exaggerated interest in Japan...

Kir0 06-10-2007 06:41 PM

Er no, not entirely.

I love Japanese people, their counrty, history, art and culture. Yes I also love the anime and manga. However, I do shower, and I don't spend my days buying bunches of "plastic craps". I do have action figures though, lol. :p

That site is rediculous. Its just stereotyping.

Theres nothing wrong with enjoying another culture more than your own. Its all personal opinion. They love America for the most part, and try to be like Americans. Not all of course.

Kaicui 06-10-2007 08:04 PM

i am japanese living outside of japan or so we call
外国日本

Visualkeistar 06-12-2007 05:05 PM

I know that i'm not wapanese because wapanese means white japanese...just like how wigger means....well, you know :ywave:

Anyways, I follow my own style, eat what I like, and talk however i like. I don't try to be japanese by calling ppl blahblahblah-san or w/e. That'd be just very annoying. I just adore the music and I just have an interest in the asian cultures.

EternallySilenced 06-12-2007 05:18 PM

Im not even white. lol
So what would you call a native wanting to be Japanese?

kireikoori 06-13-2007 06:18 PM

And with my first post here I respond to this topic.

Wapanese and Japanophile are one in the same. Wapanese/Weeaboo means wannabe Japanese not white Japanese. ED tends to go by the internet rule "racism is always funny".

As for Japanophile however it's termed.
親日派 - Wikipedia
There's the Japanese word. Seriously, put Japanophile in wikipedia, click on the 日本語 link.

kanji: 親日派, hiragana: しんにちは and romanized as shinnichiha.
And it means any not Japanese person who holds a positive opinion of Japan. Basically, the opposite of a Japanophobe.

And yes, I am a Japanophile. I signed up for this forum because I am a Japanophile and want to talk about Japan.
