I'm still looking for places in Tokyo to stay in. I''m gonna spend a week+ in tokyo and the area and want to try a few levels of accommodation. Most of the time it'll be budget hotels but for the first 2 nights of arriving in Japan/Tokyo I need a comfortable mid range hotel close to the Narita express line as well as easy access to the Shinkansen to Hiroshima.
Hotels in Tokyo are pretty expensive. I did not realize how expensive it was till after I booked my plane ticket. Oh well. lol

I'm staying:
4 nights at the Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku.
5 nights at The B Roppongi Hotel.

Both these hotels are in premium locations but they are mid range hotels.

I'm thinking about the Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku as well but haven't decided yet.

If I'm there at the same time as anyone here is of course I'd hook up with you. Be advised I'll be 39 in March

All I'm waiting on now is my passport. Still crunching numbers with hotels playing with dates etc...

There really is a whole range of prices when it comes to hotels in Tokyo. Sometimes I am surprised how expensive some are, and sometimes I am surprised at how cheap. It is worth investigating...

Keep in mind that Shinjuku and Roppongi are two of the most expensive places in the city to stay. It's like going to LA and staying in Beverly Hills. Two trainstops away (10 or 15 minutes door to door) might be half the price.

I like Ueno when I stay in Tokyo. Quieter, fun area, hotels are nice and reasonably priced and I am close to all the major areas.

You're not kidding.

Rates range from $60 - $695 USD a night

I'm just working with various sites and seeing if I can shave more off, my cut off is $2300 CDN for a hotel for the three weeks, that's not what I want to pay but it's what I can afford

Yeah, during my search I'm seeing all kinds of prices. Some of the places I want to stay in are closer to 695 a night (Park Hyatt for instance), most are closer to 60. Since I'm not travelling alone and will be sharing the room expense, I can even afford a night or two in a fancy hotel just to experience a luxury hotel/Ryokan in Japan which is supposed to be amazing.

Hiii there.

Trust me you wont see tokyo in 3 weeks. haha.

try it.

most people who say you can, havent been.

esp if its your first time there. you wont uncover all the cool lil gems in Tokyo.

week 1, finding your way around
week 2, familiarizing your self with some cool places
week 3, frantically finding new places to see b4 you leave.

Shinjuku isnt a bad place to be in, its really fun, a lil bit off from some other places, but nothing a 10 minute jr ride wont fix.

lil expensive, id recommend yoyogi or takanawa through sakura house

as Roppongi, Shibuya, harajuku, shinjuku are some of the more expensive areas.

since cost isnt a issue, shinjuku is definately a fun start!

if you have any specific questions shoot me a msg.

i should be going back some where in april.

Dude your guides that you've posted are awesome. I've cut and pasted a bunch of stuff from here and I'm up to 25 pages

not to mention your Zippo tricks

I just plan on being very fluid and going with flow, there are really only two must do's on internary.

1. Nara

2. Yokosuka, I'm a big fan of Shenmue and walking the streets of Dobuita would just rock.

I don't see this as a once in a lifetime trip, more like getting my bearings as I will be coming back.
