If you dont have product on hand water works as well.
Pretty much any product you put into your hair prior to straightening will help- so that it just "burns" through the liquid of the product and doesnt dry your hair into an abysmal overprocessed mess.

GHD is the best, and I've had lots of different hair straighteners. Since it goes amazingly hot though you really need to look after your hair, you don't want it frazzled :/ But it's more than worth the money I paid for them!
