How to sing Happy Birthday - 04-12-2007, 06:40 AM

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a japanese version of a happy birthday song? My boyfriend is Japanese and I would like to sing it to him for his birthday. I can't seem to find one on the internet. An audio file and translation would be great! Thanks!!

yeah I don't think there is an equivalent.. not that Ive heard of... But we did make our own translation and have our Japanese friends laugh so hard.

in the tune of happy bday:

otanjoubi omedetou, otanjoubi omedetou, otanjoubi, otanjoubi , otanjoubi omedetou... to you...

If it has a meaning, it be idiomatic.

It's just very, very formal for an ending.

The song is indeed exactly the same as in English. The Japanese sing it in English too.
Just remember to add Tanjoubi Omedeto on the end and clap. Japanese love clapping!

Yep, it is sung in English.

My Nephew's 12th birthday was just a few weeks ago. It took every ounce of self control to not laugh while my father in law was singing. Totally hilarious.
