Looking for translator japanese to english~

Hey's nice to meet you all i'm not so sure if recruitment for translator is allowed but i'll shall describe about the requirements and some others information about it.
We wish you could reach the minimum requirement.
1.Age of 1-100+ (Ignore This)
2.Able to translate japanese.(Main)
3.Understand Basic English.(Grammer Vocab)
4.Part time for Translator or Full-Time Translator

Well.... now is for the information about us.

But he does bring up a good point; freelance Japanese-to-English translators often make a pretty penny in Japan. To get someone to volunteer to do it for free isn't easy.

They make a pretty penny in America, too. That's mostly what I do for a living.

I am happy to help people learning Japanese here, but translating paragraphs (or pages) of material for free isn't really in my best interest.

Really? I had always read that translators get the short end of the stick here in the US. Who do you work for? Or are you freelance? After I graduate and spend a few years in JET I hope to become a translator myself.

I used to work for a translation company, but now do freelance. That's the way to go.

how do you become a translator? what do you do? (translate books or what people say?)

i'm thinking abt getting a job related to language when i'm old enough (and smart enough) cuz right now i study english, chinese (native), and japanese.

A translator translates written words

An interpretor translates spoken words

I am not sure how I "became" a translator. I used to live in Japan and came back to America. I always had jobs relating to Japan, and finally got a job in a translation company. I wasn't sure if I could do it, but it seems that I could. So then I decided to go at it on my own, and so far, so good.

Right now I am translating a sci-fi series for one company and manga which are included with toys for another.

which one seems easier? translator or interpreter?

It depends on personal taste. I am actually a better speaker and listener of Japanese than reader and writer, but I prefer translating over interpreting. Others prefer the opposite, and some people do both.

I don't really want to get into payment, but it can definately be enough to live on. Many people do it part-time, in their spare time, too.
