Well he/she indeed put me to shame and this is my second year studying and I can't even read most of what he/she wrote. Maybe it's because I only have lesson two hours per week. Is that why? Or is it because I'm stupid? Haha

Feeling the heat beating down on my back
It makes me feel alive

I can see the light

What about your pre-U days. How long have you been doing Japanese then?
Or did you entirely did it in just 8 months?

I must say, with your current grasp of Japanese understanding, you would put many people who had been doing it for 2 or 3 or even 4 years to shame.
I'm sure you had been studying very hard. Well done.
Thank you for your encouragement. You're right, I do put a lot of time into learning Japanese.

Pre uni? I did Japanese for 2 years in year 9 and 10 (I was 13 and 14) in high school so it's been a while. Upon beginning uni I only remembered Hiragana and Katakana (which were covered in the first month anyway) and a few words I'd picked up in mainstream culture. I got a couple of months head start I suppose.

What's helped me a LOT though is that I also meet with a language buddy on a regular basis. At least once a week but usually twice or three times a week. She's from Japan and wants to improve her English also, so we'll go to a cafe and have a chat, taking turns in English and Japanese at alternate meetings.

I also used to make these journals off line every night and read them out loud to myself, however since discovering this site I've decided it would be cool to open them up to feedback and advice.

Thanks again for your encouragement.

Don't be put off by it. My Japanese is limited to the grammar points we've gone over in class and the words that I've practiced in and outside of class. It is entirely possible that you are learning totally different material and vocabulary.

Also as you can see by my previous post. I really enjoy it and try and find time outside of class to practice which helps a LOT.

(Hello!

Today was sunny! The wind was a little strong but the weather was great otherwise. Yesterday's (weather) was very bad. Wellington has strange weather.

Anyway today I went to uni and met my friend Mariko. Mariko is Japanese. We spoke Japanese for an hour then went to a Malaysian restaurant for dinner. Because my Japanese is limited, we spoke English after the Cafe.

I'm meeting Mariko tomorrow also! Because it's the weekend I'm delighted!)

uhh sorry, but its just something ive realised with your japanese writing
im not sure if youre doing this because youre tired or sleepy or anything, but ill get the easist example:

Quote:
昨日のがとてもわるいんだ。
make sure you pay attention to your tenses. Since youre talking about yesterdays weather, remember to change the adjective to past tense as well:
昨日のがとてもわるかったんだ。

anyway, good work with your writing, keep it up =)

and your use of じゃあ, just my opinion, i think there could be a number of better words that you could use there
the one im thinking of is: とにかく- which also means anyway
i remember seeing/using another word that can be used there but i cant remember it at the moment >.<

umm might wanna fix the typo hehe =)
keep it up, looking forward to your next posts

@bloodsinger: haha 2 hours a week is definately not enough o_O" well not for beginner learners anyway
i used to (almost 3 years ago) practise colloquial japanese almost all day because i constantly emailed my japanese friends
for some reason we havent been emailing much anymore, but thats why i ended up in these forums hehe

私はもう十ヶ月ぐらい日本語を習いました。でも私の日 本語がまだへたです。特に読解と文法のすることがへた です 。大変ですね。 私は日本語がじょうずになりたいです。だから、ひまな 時'ふりがな和英辞典'という辞典を読みます。その辞典 姉が先週日本で買った辞典です。今年の十二月JLPT4(Japa nese Language Proficiency Test)のテストがあります。頑張ります。

アデュ~

This is my first entry and also for the first time i'm writing a whole paragraph in japanese. Please kindly correct my mistakes or give me any advice. Thanks for reading.

im not all that good at japanese, and i might make mistakes when i "correct" lol >.<
well if i make mistakes, could anyone (mostly MMM and masaegu) correct me too? ive been lacking practise for the past few months =\

Quote:
特に読解と文法のすることがへた です
I guess you could say 特に読解することと文法を書くことが苦手です
苦手(にがて)- a weak point

Quote:
ひまな 時
ひまの時... (i think thats how it should be, correct me if im wrong)

and when you talk about the JLPT, instead of あります
you could say: 今年の十二月にあるJLPT4を受けることにしました or 受けるつもりです

こんにちは

今、Apologiseというチンバランドの新しい歌を聞いている 。美しい歌だと思う。ここで聞ける。

YouTube - Timbaland feat One Republic - Apologise

(Hello!

Right now I'm listening to Timberlands new song "Apologise". I think it's a beautiful song. You can listen to it here

What do you think?

Anyway, this morning I woke up early because I wanted to watch the Scotland-Argentina Rugby match. I was late for class though. After class I met with Mariko. We had lunch and practiced Japanese, then I went to work to speak to my friend Nick.

This week I have the final exam for Japanese so I have to study a lot. Next week I have an International Relations exam and the week after I have a Politics one. I think from this week I'm going to become busy.)
