~[What REALLY Made You Like Your Bands?]~

I thought about the idea of making a poll to find this out, but I decided that this would just be easier... Why do you like the bands you listen to? What caught your eye in the begining? Was it their looks first, then you heard how well their music sounded...WHAT??? And how did you find them? Friends...Tv..Internet?

I remember what got me hooked was seeing Dir en grey on a music channel called Fuse...they had played their video for The Final...and I was hooked.....then I found Miyavi, Girugamesh, MUCC, Duel Jewel, An Cafe, Yoshiki on a channel called IMF....then I found a bunch of others here! ^_^'
To be honest Diru's looks were what caught my eye first...then finding out that they were from was another plus b/c I was still CRAZY for Japan back then ^_^

NanteNa 12-29-2007 11:08 PM

Omg! X'3 Well.. I'll try... Just.. mentioning some of 'em.

Dir en Grey:
Well. First of all I was drawn to this by Kyo. O_O'' His looks and all these emotions he got going on when he's on stage just caught me. It's amazing. >_>'' Yet, to begin with I didn't like the music that much. Kyo's always fascinated me though. ^^''
I'm pretty sure I discovered these by a mistake. XD haha! But I sure as hell don't regret doing so. Now I lov' 'em to death! *_*

Alice Nine:
Hiroto and Saga!!! *_* I don't need to say more. Yes it was the looks - and obviously it still is. Eeeeek! X''3

12012:
Again. 'accident' or.. 'coincidence' if you may. ^^'' I loved the song BURN from the very beginning. Just.. rocks!<3 Yuusuke is teh smexx (and he belongs to me.. -_-'')

LM.C:
LeBroche from this place introduced me for this band. I loved 'em right away. Especially 'Rock the LM.C' *_*;; I kinda followed their growing ever since the beginning of 2007, so I'm kind of a newbie-fan. XD haha!

Miyavi:
Ma first jrock-looooove! X''3 I had this HUUUUGGE crush on Meevster to begin with. ^^ Celebrating my second year as a fan. WOOHOO~! I saw a picture of him on this danish Music Channel on TV. Something about Bill from Tokio Hotel being a copy cat. *giggle* Anyway. First track was Jibun Kakumei and DAMN will I luv his music till my heart beats for the very last time. :''3

the GazettE:
I discovered Gazeboys by coincidence as well. ^^ I don't really remember why, but I found ''Zakurogata no Yuuutsu'' on Youtube - listened - was sold<3 GAZEROCK's NOT DEAD and god dammit I will DIE the day they decide to disband. *_* Aooiiiiii<3 -faints-

Vidoll:
I saw ''Gothikaroid'' (yush, the PV) about a year ago and obviously fell in love with Jui's voice. ^^ Hell yearh I own this boy!! Cheese and crackers he's the smexx. *_*;; Anyway. His voice is awesome - he cannot dance though. O_o

Egurigori:
Again; coincidence. *dances* They disbanded last year - which sucks. But the song 'Sweet Waltz' is addictive. O_O'' I'm SOOO in love with this shit and I really need to meet up with these guys to kick their bony asses into the ground. ^^'''

MaymeRachael 12-29-2007 11:16 PM

(laughs)
Your one about Meeves was funny! ^_^'
I think it was the Neo Visualism video that made me stare and continue to gaze @ him! ^_^ And his guitar skills just blew me away!

http://youtube.com/watch?v=7ThoGOST-Gw

NanteNa 12-29-2007 11:18 PM

Yeh. O_O it wasn't until I saw his Selfish Love PV I really realized how fucked up his skills are. *faints*

Yuh - that clip. *dreamy eyes* :''3

MaymeRachael 12-29-2007 11:26 PM

WOW!!!

And I thought I was bad ^_~ No offense!
(:rheart:)

NanteNa 12-29-2007 11:49 PM

Ahem!~ >_>'' Actually. I'm practicing my slabbin' skills on my precious Washburn. *_* -dreamy eyes- That sooooooound.. *faints*

Wonder who taught him to play the guitar. O_o

MaymeRachael 12-29-2007 11:52 PM

I don't know....good question...maybe we should find the person...kidnap them and force them to teach us! ^_^'

NanteNa 12-29-2007 11:55 PM

YUSHIES! *_* That'll be a good idea. But yush. ^^'' His guitar made me love his music too. :''3 It's weird to admit I had a crush on him.. but srsly. >_>'' who can blame me?

VisualKei 12-29-2007 11:57 PM

Mmmkay. Let's see...

AnCafe
My first visual kei band! A friend of mine showed me a picture of Bou and insisted that he was a boy, while I had a hard time believing it. So I did some research, found out that he was right, and then fell in love with the music xD My first song was "Tekesuta Kousen".

HIZAKI Grace Project
A friend's reccomendation. My first song was "Cradle".

Versailles
My love of HIZAKI grace project made me take up this band. They share three members :D My first song was "The Revenant Choir".

Iceman
The anime Gravitation made me fall in love with these guys, since they sang the extremely catchy Shining Collection for it <3

Hyde
This was a reccomendation from a girl I roleplayed with. She made me listen to "The Cape of Storms" and I was automatically addicted.

MelfinaPan 12-30-2007 12:24 AM

Plastic Tree
A friend of mine sent me a mp3 of Kuuhaku no hi and Ryutaro's vocal was so passionate that I had to hear more from them. I had to kick myself after that because I had a greatest hits of theirs sitting in my cabinet and I just never listened to it. After listening to it I fell madly in love and I've been a fan ever since. I'm a hard core Kurage now :)

L'Arc~en~Ciel
I was immediately attracted to Hyde's voice. He has a gorgeous voice (not to mention the fact that he's gorgeous physically...). Their old stuff is just awesome. They're a little too poppy for my taste now, but they still sound good.

Kagrra
I remember being mesmerized by Isshi's vocal. I bought Gozen on a whim, started listening to it, and couldn't stop. I really loved the concept behind the group with the blend of rock music and traditional Japanese music.

Buck-Tick
Again, it was a voice thing. Sakurai Atsushi's voice is orgasmic...yup. I heard Dress for the first time and his voice literally sent shivers up my spine...

Miyavi
I remember that I didn't like him at first. Can you imagine? What brought me around was seeing the Night In Girl PV. After that I started to listen to more of his music and realized that he was quite talented.

Kra, The Gazette, and Alice Nine
I discovered these guys all at the same time. When I started to get more into Miyavi, I became interested in other groups on the PSC label. I downloaded a Peace and Smile Carnival dvd rip and of course after that I had to get as much as I could from them. I have to say though, I like my Gaz boys a bit more than Kra and A9, but I love all three groups.

Katchan6 12-30-2007 12:28 AM

hmm well my 1st japanese band was orange range which i saw on kouhaku and my 1st vk band was ancafe which i found here!

MaymeRachael 12-30-2007 12:30 AM

o_O'
You didn't like Meeves @ first! >_<' ^_^
@Nan...I can't blame you for having a crush on him ^_^'

NanteNa 12-30-2007 12:37 AM

MP: I dunno why. but god dammit I cannot stand Kagrra. >_> PSC rock, but that band was just a mistake.

Mayme: haha! XD Exactly. I was hopelessly devoted to his adorable creature. Thank god I got over it. XD haha!

MaymeRachael 12-30-2007 12:39 AM

How could you get over something like Miyavi...you had your shot didn't you? Your Anti-Meevster shot! I belive I way over do ^_^'

MelfinaPan 12-30-2007 12:44 AM

Mayme: Yeah, it's nuts, but I didn't like my dear Meevs at first. I thought he was a little too quirky and weird. Eventually it was that quirkyness that grew on me. I started to like how he experimented with sounds and style. Now I can't imagine a world without Miyavi ^_^

Nan: Well, Kagrra just doesn't suit your taste I guess. It's what makes us all different. To each their own :) I just find Isshi's voice to be so beautiful and I like the blend of musical styles.

NanteNa 12-30-2007 12:45 AM

Hahahah! X'3 Omg omg! *giggle* Ur right MP. ^^

>weeps<

I love Kagrra,. Isshi's voice is awesome. It's Kra that is lacking. You no picky on Isshi!

NaruNaruChan 12-30-2007 04:27 AM

i like music and bands play music so I like the bands=^^=

xYinniex 12-30-2007 01:38 PM

An Cafe: i was really into Dance music at the time, and 'smile ichiban Ii Onna' was just such a bouncy track. Snow scene was the one that really captures me- great track and it was my first introduction into VK music and fashion and that was REALLY interesting. And it all started from there

Gazette: I heard 'cassis' and 'nausea and Shudder' from my friend's myspace profile and i fell in love with Ruki's voice. It was very deep and it was soothing, especially in 'cassis.' Being the small musician I am, i was incredibly impressed with the other bandmates, and they weren't an eyesore either.

Miyavi: my friend introduced this artist to me, and i downloaded his debut album 'gagaku'- TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY, i'm only a first year fan ^^. unlike Nanny.

Dir en Grey: It wasn't that attractive to me at first, but after listening to it alot, it grew on me. and Kyo is absolutely gorgeous.

l'arc en ciel: well, who hasn't heard of l'arc en ciel. FMA and just its a really well known band. When you say Jrock it was 'OOH HAVE YOU SEEN MOONCHILD?' and Hyde's looks really captured me.

*sigh* I cannot stand 'em >_>''
The PSC Tour Live's scared me off. O_O''
Actually.. I don't like Kra. either.<_> *eyetwitch*

Touya 12-30-2007 04:51 PM

>thumbs up<

You are allowed to not like Kra, but apologize to Isshi.

Or I tie you down and play his music until you like him.

Fielia 12-30-2007 04:57 PM

I can't even remember which japanese band or singer was the first one I heard of. It might have been some j-pop singer. One of the first j-rock bands I heard of were BLOOD, Dir en grey and X Japan. Then came bands like the GazettE, D'espairsRay, Aybie and Plastic tree. The newist japanese band I have heard of is UnsraW.

I listen mostly to Dir en grey, X Japan and MUCC. I have seen only Dir en grey live (twice). MUCC has been to Finland too, several times actually, but I haven't went to their consert, yet. Maybe next time.

It has been about three years now when I first heard of Dir en grey. I heard about it from my friend. I had heard the name Dir en grey earlier, actually, but my friend played their music to me. I thought it was ok, anything special. I kind of forgot the whole band for a while. A couple of months later I listened to Dir en grey again. I liked it much more than in the first time. Later I bought their album, Withering to Death. It was honestly the music that made me love Dir en grey. Not the players. I think that's one of the reasons their music means so lot to me.

The same happened with X Japan and MUCC. I first heard their music, then found about the players.

Uhm.. Why not just tie me? :''3 -smirk-

DivineBled 12-30-2007 05:25 PM

What really got my attention about MM is their sound, its so baroque, so classical, so unique. I fell in love with Malice Mizer from that point on.

DIR EN GREY: Well, my story about this band is weird. I was looking at the featured videos on YouTube, and I saw this girl teaching Japanese Lessons, and I watched, and she said something about 'Dir en grey' in one of her videos, so I looked them up. The First song I heard was 'Saku' it scared me. But for some reason I kept listening to them. And soon I was just hooked, I dunno how it happened. [btw, I love "Saku" now. XD]

Alice Nine: I'm not really sure how I discovered this band. I just saw them on here, then I looked them up, listened to 'Jewels' and I was hooked. But it was mainly the members that really kept me interested in Alice Nine. XD

Miyavi: ToKyObOxRoBoT actually introduced me to Miyavi. I owe her so much! I don't know how I could live without Miyavi in my life. XD The first song I heard was "Selfish Love" Instant love. XD

Antic Cafe: Again, I own ToKyObOxRoBoT for introducing me into this band. First song was "Snow Scene" Omg I was so hooked, I never stopped listening to that song.

-v-NEUWell, I learned about them on here, and I heard 'Honey Bee" and again, instantly hooked. They're so happy! XD

GazettE I heard about them on YouTube, I just looked up Jrock, and I saw the GazettE, and I listened to "Ruder" and I thought they were very unique, and I just kept listening to them.

emiluvsjmusic 12-31-2007 03:44 AM

the first time i saw l'arc en ciel was in their link pv
im not really sure what attracted me to them :D
i guess it was the sound of the music... and also that they didnt really look like a normal japanese band XDDD

SSJup81 12-31-2007 05:52 AM

Ahh, this should be fun to do and I'll only stick with Japanese bands.

Do As Infinity
I don't know why, but I just love the group's style. I like their rock/pop like sound. What really hooked me, even though I'd been listening to the group's music prior, was Shinjitsu no Uta and the PV for that. I really fell in love with their music after that.

I know this group disbanded two years ago, but it'll still remain one of my all-time favorite Japanese bands. I just hate the fact that I couldn't see them perform when in New York back in 2004 because I didn't have the money to go. I visited the week before they got there and I also didn't have a job at the time. You don't know how depressing it was to find out that they wouldn't be coming back to the states since that next year, they announced their disbanding.

move
I love this group!! I love the fact that they're always changing and the combine different types of genre of music at times. I wish I owned more by them. Most of my collections consist of Do As Infinity stuff.

I'd heard three songs prior to the one that hooked me. I got hooked after listening to the group's DOGFIGHT single. I love their rock songs.

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE
My mother considers this group "noise". I just consider them to be extreme! I don't know what I like...I just find them interesting. The song that got me to really like them was Zetsubo Billy, which was used as the second ending theme to Deathnote. I also liked that live performance I saw of the group for What's Up People!

Dreams Come True
This group has been around since 1989, and still going strong. The members of the group are very talented. I just like the group. I just wish I owned something by them instead of just downloaded stuff. The group also has nice live performances. An online buddy pretty much introduced me to the group. My first song I heard by the group was Anata ni Aitakute. Miwa has very nice vocals.

HIGH and MIGHTY COLOR
Well, the music for this group is catchy, and I like this group the same way I do Do As Infinity. I'd heard stuff by them earlier on (like Pride), but what really made me like this group was when I was watching Music Bang on AZN channel. The PV they played for it was Ichirin no Hana.

ALI PROJECT
This group's music is kind of dark, imo, and I really like it. Surprisingly, I'm not too big a fan of Shiina Ringo. Anywho, the song I really enjoyed by the group was Mirai no Eve.

Antic Cafe
I just got into this group. They're okay. I like the music a lot...but I'm a bit iffy on the vocals. I guess I just have to get used to them.

BUMP OF CHICKEN
This is an older group too. The music is catchy, I enjoy the vocals, etc. I first got into the group watching that AZN channel we get. The PV was Planetarium. The song that really got me into the group was Arue.

Going Under Ground & Monoral
These groups are nice too. I only put them together since I feel that both are very underrated. They're both nice soft rock groups, imo, and Monoral has very good English. What got me into Going Under Ground was the song Twilight. For Monoral, I listened to one of their albums.

RIZE
Now I like this group because it's sort of like a rock/rap group. The song that got me into them was Vibration and Light Your Fire. I really love these guys, especially the rock aspect of them.

THYME
Now this group is new, so I can only judge them by their one single. Soft rock, for the most part, if it can be classified as such.

Now, honorable mention would go to L'Arc~en~Ciel, Nightmare, and Malice Mizer. I like these bands/groups, but I wouldn't consider them favorites.

Other bands I'd like to check out are: the GazettE, Alice Nine, and S.K.I.N. I really want to check out S.K.I.N, since Gackt, Miyavi, Sugizo, and Yoshiki make up the group. I was never too big a fan of the groups Yoshiki was apart of, but it'll be interesting to hear either way.

I like the J-bands that I like just because they are Japanese.

uhm..thats kinda shallow. Yes, I admit, i liked it because its different, but also I enjoyed the music, not just cuz of where it came from.

I don't agree with your statement, sorry.

I don't want to be rude, but are you serious? I personally could never listen to a band because of it's background. The most important thing, and perhaps the only important thing in listening to music is that you enjoy it. It doesn't matter which country the band is from or are the players good looking or not. At least, that's what I think. Maybe you should cosider finding those bands you like just because of the music, not because of the home country.

xYinniex 01-01-2008 01:19 PM

exactly.
*sigh*
Please be more open minded, kisuke

To a point I'm the same....if I see that they are Japanese it draws me in first.....then I listen to them get some background info.....then I decide if I like them and want to get more invloved....^_^

Same with me. ^^'' I usually refuse to listen to bands non-japanese unless they really make great music.. which only happens rarely. *sigh*

Yet, I don't fall in love with jbands who make crappy music - just because they're japanese.
