$20,000? - 01-22-2010, 04:45 AM

Would $20,000 be enough money to cover everything (tuition/rent/transportation/food/miscellaneous) for somebody who wants to study Japanese in one of the language schools in Tokyo?

Depends on how long you are planning on going for.

I've read KCP International Language School, & Naganuma Language School are both supposedly good.

I don't know, though. There are so many language schools in Tokyo it's hard to know which ones are good.

A little Internet search shows that KCP is $17,100 for an academic year. That's school and dorm room, so $20,000 would not be enough, as this does not include food.

Naganuma thinks you can do 12 months for 1,647,750 yen (just over $18,000 dollars) but that is living on 15 dollars a day, which in Tokyo seems damn near impossible unless you never go anywhere and cook for yourself.

Where did you see "12 months for 1,647,750 yen"? What I'm looking at says something else.

I see it.
How much do you think would be sufficient then?

My policy is take as much as you think you will need, and add 1/3.

I would think $24,000 and then add $8000 and you should be safe.
