Question are 3,00,000 Japanese Yen per month enough to live in Japan - 01-04-2011, 08:36 AM

Hi all,

I have recently got an offer from Rakuten Inc of japan. They are offering me a salary of 3,00,000 JPY per month. I am single and I am sure that I am not going to get married in next 10 years.

I want to save 1,50,000 JPY per month or atleast 1,00,000 JPY per month. I want to know if the salary is good enough to live a healthy life + can I afford a car in Japan.

I know japanese so I do not think language would be a problem.
English is not a problem for me as well.
I want to know about the job prospects and higher education in Japan.

Are you this obnoxious in real life, or only online?

Cut with the bold and super-sized text. I almost deleted this post because it looks like a spam ad.

I don't understand these numbers, is it meant to be 3,000,000 or 300,000??
even in the japanese system it would be 30,0000

?!

it might help getting your question answered

Rakuten is offering you a job for 3,000,000 a month and you don't have a degree, and you don't have a visa to live in Japan?

why do you worry about whether I have a degree or not or do I have a visa or not.
Don't u think they are not a part of the context of my question

in simple words I want to know : are 300000 JPY enough to make a living in Japan as well I want to save 100000JPY out of those 300000JPY...would that be possible ?

Having a degree helps determine if you can live in Japan. I don't care but you probably should.

300,000 is a very generous salary and more than enough to live anywhere in Japan. If you are trying to save money, it shouldn't be a problem unless you have an expensive lifestyle.

And to be clear, visas do not grow on trees, so you must have some selling point (like a degree) to get one. Or else you have an inside track with Rakuten and they want you personally for a special reason.

Y300,000 a month is not bad money but you're hardly going to get rich anytime soon if you actually want to have much of social life. My wife and I each earn more than that and live in a cheap region of Japan (rural Hokkaido). We own our house and car so have no debts at all and we would save more than what you are looking to each month but it is generally easier to save when you have 2 incomes.
I would think in bigger cities like Tokyo or Osaka you'll be able to live a reasonable lifestyle on that sort of money but saving a 1/3 rd of it after taxes and living expenses will not be easy, especially if you also had a car to run.
