Commissioned writing

In order to do commission writing is it just putting yourself out there or is there a site or something? Because I've been trying to become a commission writer, and I've post stuff on plenty of sites but it's just not going well for me. I guess I was just wondering if their is anything I could do different.

I can't find any type of information on what "commision writing" is, unless it goes under a different name.

However, I'm going to infer that it's some sort of writing where companies like your work, and then pay you to use the sample of your work in their publication, similar doing stock photography. Am I wrong?

Yeah I think. My friends draw commissions all the time for just random people

Art commissions and writing commissions are quite different. What are you writing, fiction or academic? If it's the latter, there are companies who act like temp agencies just for commercial commission writers, so you could look for one of them. They prefer writers who have a specialist field though.

Just be wary when doing freelance writing, especially when it comes to the pay rates. There are some dodgy people around who will offer you an obscenely low amounts of money, so I suggest that you also research what the going rates are.

Finding work also depends on the medium you're looking at. Digital publications are often easier to get work with, than magazines and newspapers.

Here are two websites that may help you find clients, but they do require you to pay for a yearly subscription. There's no doubt more sites like those are out there, and there's actually forums dedicated to freelance writers you may wish to search for.

Just a couple of minor points. In the U.S., you should search under "freelance" rather than "commission". Yes, you are paid a commission for the work but it is rarely, if ever, referred to as commissioned writing. I am not sure about the terminology elsewhere though.

While I completely understand about spelling and typing mistakes while posting on a forum such as this (I am awful about it at times), if someone is truly interested in hiring you they will do a search on your name and these posts will appear becaue it is the one you are using professionally, so they will hurt your rep. You might consider another user name, but one that references back so casual posting don't come up in professional searches.

One other thing about the name. You want people to remember it and not have to look it or your email up to see how its spelled. I checked out that like and I suggest simplifying a bit. I know we are all very partial to the names we are known by, but when it comes to marketing you want it remembered accurately.

That's one of the best for writing jobs, although people on there pay good money so aslong as its perfect then its a good place to go for written work.

mmm, I think you need to improve your writing skills because your example is not at all exciting.

Maybe go study English before attempting to offer your services.

There are thousands of writers out there-- if you wish to succeed you will need to fly high above the rest and have perfect written English.
