Genres you avoid?

What genre do you mostly avoid and why? What I mean by that is, is there a certain type of anime you shy away from, whether its magical girl, horror, mecha, etc...

For me, I usually tend to stay away from love anime such as Gravitation and Maburaho. I typically stay away from those kinds of anime because I always hate the character design and plot. The shows are very predictable. I also stay away from Genres under 50 episodes. I like my anime long,.

Asakura 05-15-2008 03:52 AM

I don't kike Anime that is overy stupid, Bobobo-bobobbo Or whatever is the perfect example. That is, just too stupid. It's not funny anymore.

BakaCrisis 05-15-2008 03:55 AM

Bobobo, no.
Excel Saga, Super Milk Chan, Shin-Chan and ermm Golden Boy FTW!!!!

Asakura 05-15-2008 03:59 AM

I like Exel saga and Shin Chan. But when you are so obsessed with slapstick that you don't have a plot point. Thats When I sign off.

I'm not too nuts about softcore hentai either. The kind thats almost there, but not.

Crani 05-25-2008 04:28 PM

I tend to avoid drama or Shojo anime, they're too girly and no blood makes Crani mad. :D

DragonShade 05-25-2008 10:27 PM

I tend to avoid Naruto , bleach genre which aim for 10 years old viewers

Drend 05-25-2008 10:59 PM

I usually avoid anime with the 'shoujo' art style. Can't stand every single guy being tall and handsome with the same exact hair styles in different colors (I'm looking at you, Vampire Knight) I usually avoid Harem too, since they're so predictable. Also, most anything with vampires.

KikiBunny23 05-25-2008 11:18 PM

i dont have anything i shy away from except, like Chibi said, hentai. its gross...i like anime that has some action in it yet have that tinge of romance

SSJup81 05-25-2008 11:28 PM

I tend to avoid series (manga and anime) that are romance heavy. I don't mind romance as a sub-genre but not the main genre. I also tend to avoid stuff like hentai since I'm not into it and find it pretty pointless. Oh, mech series I don't care much for, but that's mostly because they tend to bore me. Some don't, but most of the ones I've come across, have in some way.

For the most part, I'll watch or read most anything, since it's the story I'm interested in.

Shiningmonkey 05-25-2008 11:38 PM

I stay away from shoujo and any hentai stuff.

manganimefan227 05-26-2008 01:49 AM

Hentai and mech and certain types of horror

TKS 05-26-2008 06:09 AM

persiandragon 05-26-2008 06:32 AM

mostly mecha and horrorr or manga/anime that is dark. other stuff as well but those main points.

Ronin4hire 05-26-2008 07:09 AM

I can't really say I avoid any particular genre...

I usually avoid anime that seems to be aimed at otaku as these kinds of anime are usually big in special effects, with stereotypical, predictable, one dimensional characters who spout cheesy dialogue and small in emotional substance and mental stimulation. (in other words I tend to avoid watching anything with huge robots, swords, emo looking anti-heroes etc.)

Favourite anime of all time would have to be Princess Mononoke.

MissMisa 05-26-2008 08:33 AM

I usually avoid Sci-Fi, mainly because it's usually very hard for it to not come across as being very very cheesy. It's not a genre but I never watch animes with 100+ episodes. I always like them in the standard 20-30 so I don't have to catch up on any or think I've missed some. Like with Bleach, there is no way I could catch up to all the episodes they are on now.

lol then you are missing a lot of anime :P

i usually avoid gore and blooding anime..
get me sick >_<

EveV 05-26-2008 05:40 PM

Overly-popular ones.
Or ones that are way to predictable.
Like Inuyasha and Naruto. I seriously cannot stand Naruto.

ForeverDreamer 05-26-2008 06:41 PM

I don't really care for anime with over 150 eps (Inuyasha/Naruto) but Bleach is an exception. also no hentai, yuri, or things that include romance with little kids

Me neither I hate Naruto. It has too many random fanbummers and the artwork sucks in my opinion.

forgotenmemory 05-26-2008 08:44 PM

I avoid, romance, horror, yaoi, blah blah blah. ^^

Asakura 05-26-2008 11:08 PM

Horror and exessive gore turn me off to a series. It's kinda hard to find a series that balances realism with fantasy.

Rogozhin 05-27-2008 02:00 PM

I'm willing to test every genre. However, I try to avoid series that are mindnumbingly popular. When I find out the series is not as great as people make it out to be (which is often the case), I get bitter.

Nakishee 05-27-2008 02:32 PM

I don't like magical girl transformations. You know the scenes where they suddenly become 'naked' and gain clothes and accessories. Then at the end they pose weird, adding up to a total of like 5 minutes?
Maybe one or two episodes, yeah, but EVERY episode, 5 minutes each...
I avoid anime with those in them

Alannaeowyn 05-27-2008 10:42 PM

Let's see.....tragedy, horror, shounen ai, yaoi, yuri and shoujo ai, hentai, lolicon, shotacon.....what am I missing? I don't read much seinen or shounen.

sillygodxdisco 05-28-2008 01:02 AM

scifi b/c i think it's boring and i can't understand it.
hentai b/c .. yeah. like peach girl. >_>
favorite kind is dramaromanceloveish though :D

Aota 05-28-2008 01:09 AM

I can't stand anime that show off too much skin, so technically hentai is out of the question, anything with bad voiceovers, even if the story is grand, I'll hate it because of crappy voicing. I try to be lenient towards all genres though. Especially horror. I know a few that pulled off horror exceptionally well. I guess I hate fantasy stuff. Like Vampire Knight, and such.. I like something that is somewhat believable. o.o

chenli 05-28-2008 03:54 PM

High school romances I tend to avoid as they all seem to have the same sort of storyline and very few stick out from the crowd (unlike Bokura Ga Ita which I loved), overly cutesy too.

Rayfain 05-28-2008 03:59 PM

I avoid hentai as it just seems unneccessary.

clairebear 05-28-2008 04:02 PM

I'm surprised to see so many people who dislike hentai. You're intelligent people xD

Diclonius 05-28-2008 05:14 PM

I don't like shounen series that seem to go on forever as far as episodes are concerned (Naruto, Bleach, One Piece). Furthermore, mecha is not my cup of tea either (except for Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is a classic), as is horror (except for Elfen Lied) yaoi and probably hentai (I do own an Angelium art book though and I'm not really disturbed by that, but that may just be an isolated case). I'm not sure about yuri; I think I would have a lesser problem with that compared to yaoi.

Kenta21 05-28-2008 11:13 PM

Mecha *i think thats how its spelled*

Tatsuki 05-28-2008 11:20 PM

Really Short ones.

Oni 05-29-2008 01:57 AM

I avoid hentai, yuri, and magical girl series.... I don't really mind shonen ai (like Gravitation) or yaoi, but I completely hate yuri and shojo ai....

allie2590 05-29-2008 02:28 PM

I don't really try to avoid a certain genre, but I find I tend to like shonen manga the least.

forgotenmemory 05-29-2008 02:31 PM

I also avoid magical girls ones too. There kind of overplayed....But Sailor Moon...that was great. (when I was younger) ALso hentai (dirty dirty)

Tsusu 05-29-2008 07:52 PM

I avoid anime made by Miyadzaki. I can't say that it's bad or boring (but sometimes this way) and one or two I like. But they are too sweet for me. Too peaseful. I think it's because there are too much good in his anime works. They are nice fairy-tales but I find for more real things.

Haggis 05-29-2008 10:48 PM

I like comedy, but any anime that advertises itself as 'wacky', 'zany' or 'madcap' means that I'm going to hate it with a passion.

OMIGAWD Same.
Heh.
I need bloody anime/video games.
Otherwise I'll punch my brother in the face to see some blood.
Seriously.
^^;
(I sort of feel bad for him though. Oh well. He needs to be beat up every once in a while by his older sister. <3 )
