Is anyone vegetarian. Please talk to me.

Just wondering who's a vegetarian and why, I feel so alone, no one I know is a vegetarian and they all treat me like crap because I am.
And call me anorexic =.="
So I would really appreciate it if anyone else is like me so I have someone to talk to about it.
I would really appreciate it =]

Tsuyako 01-05-2009 11:01 AM

I'm a vegetarian too and I can understand what you're saying. On a Geography trip, I had this guy who kept calling me 'Veggie' instead of my real name >.> that got on my nerves.
You shouldn't let people get you down. Of course you're not anorexic, you just choose not to eat meat which is your own personal belief. Technically, if someone calls you that, you could turn around and call them obese because they eat meat...of course that's not true but it's what they're doing to you.
Just tell them that not eating meat isn't a way of life, it's what you chose. It doesn't make you any different to any other person, it just might mean you pick the vegetarian options in a restaurant.

FreddyLea 01-05-2009 12:23 PM

if the anorexic comment was out of spite because of what you eat ... that is mean ... but if it was because of your height vs weight ... thats another story ..

i know several vegetarians that are in their 'ideal' weight range without consuming meat ..

i am not one ... but i don't look down on someone who is ...

allie2590 01-05-2009 04:09 PM

People call vegetarians anorexic? WTF?? I'm not a vegetarian, but I think that's just stupid.

MissMisa 01-05-2009 04:15 PM

Yeah wtf seriously I have never heard anyone take the piss out of someone for being a vegetarian before. But take it as a compliment because they obviously can't find anything else to say about you.

candioussays 01-05-2009 04:42 PM

I'm a vegetarian. I've been one for basically all my life. My mom says as a baby I would only want to eat green baby foods and stopped liking milk at a really young age. I'm not a big animal rights activist. It's just a textural/taste thing for me.

However, I do relate with being made fun of or gtetting a hard time for being vegetarian. Now that I'm older and my social activities circle around eating dinners with friends, people get more annoyed with me. One of my friends said "Everything would be so much easier if you just ate meat" the other day. They always feel the need to make picking a restaurant such a big deal. Someone will suggest a place and then they'll say "Oh, but what is Candious going to eat?" when I'm honestly not that picky. As long as they have a salad or maybe I can get side of fries it's all good. If they have a vegetarian meal option, even better but not necessary.

I also get ganged up on in group situations often. People ask "Why" so much that they start to sound like 3 year olds. I just try to ignore it or I wont hang out with those people.

iGhid93 01-05-2009 06:37 PM

I was a vegetarian at a time, mostly for spiritual purposes, but I have come to a conclusion that it does not matter. Pure is pure.

Tsuyako- >=D I should insult them instead of just taking it, call them obese. That's slack I hate it when people do that, my best friend calls me veggie aswell and at camp when I had to seperatly get my food because I am vegetarian he was like (in a mocking voice) You're vegetarian? BHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. And pointed and laughed at me.
I hope that guy has stopped calling you 'veggie' If not you should push him down some stairs xp just kidding...sorta. Thank you.

FreddyLea- Thanks, we need more people like you who don't see the difference. I'm pretty sure I'm just normal, my weight hasn't changed except a few .0's since my change so it's nothing to be worried about.

allie2590- Well I'm not sure about any other vegetarian, but my mum did alot until I lost it and went off at her. But I know she still thinks it *glares*

MissMisa- Wow must just be me xp Yeah that's probably why, heh losers.

candioussays- Jeez, that's slack, they don't sound like very nice friends. And those random people ganging up on you! It's none of their business, like you'd waste your breath on them =.= Yeah just because you're vegetarian doesn't mean that you have to have a big proper vegetarian dinner, chips is just fine.

iGhid93Well at least you tried it. Spiritual purposes, like buddishm?(Pretty sure I spelt that wrong) Or was it something different?

Thank you everyone for posting, it made me feel alot better =]

KikiBunny23 01-06-2009 09:28 AM

I'm not a vegetarian, though I do eat a lot of veggies. And prefer them over meats...and I turn down the biggest mea tof all down down in the south.
Chicken.
Living near chicken houses in the country and bein an animal lover doesn't mix...who near they killed them so brutally. And how they stack them after they kill them *shudders* Haven't touched chicken in almost 3 years.

GregFromScotland 01-06-2009 10:03 AM

I do not mind vegetarians. It doesn't bother me if that is how you choose to live your life.

What sometimes grinds my gears is when veggie eaters try to attempt to convert me. It happens often, and we get into a fight about morals. We have different outlooks on life and we make our own decisions on life.

However, being a veggie is a good thing, especially if you feel better about yourself because of it. :)

TheLastFortnight- True that, I'm vegetarian because I don't like the way they kill and treat the animals. But if plants did feel pain, maybe we just can't hear their noises becuase it's too high for us to hear, or maybe they don't even have a voicebox at all:confused: I don't even think they have brains...

KikiBunny23-Geez, I've never seen it in real life, just on Earthlings and read up on it, those poor chickens =[

JoshAussie- That's great, have you found it hard at all. Or did your taste for meat just go away?

GregFromScotland- Thanks, I'm sure they don't appreciate being called veggies though, I know I sure don't. But you do have a point, trying to force things on other people isn't right. But that's good you don't bother them if they don't bother you.

Has anyone seen EARTHLINGS? I have, it's horrific

GregFromScotland 01-06-2009 10:17 AM

I honestly don't see the problem of being called a "veggie". It's not even a derogatory term. I just said veggie because it is easier to type.

It's mostly the tone people use it in, but yeah it is easier to type, I admit I've been tempted to use 'Veggie' instead of vegetarian.

Its strange, i enjoyed eating meat but i guess i realised i didnt have to eat it to survive and i like Vegetarian food (Iv got a friend whos hare krishna) and they would always give me awesome vegetarian food. But anyway, i decided id rather be vegetarian than for people to kill animals. Now when i see the meat in a supermarket or a butchers it makes me sick. Its kind of dissapointing to kill things just to eat. But i dont hold anything against anyone else. but im happy with my choice.

Awesome, most of the vegetarian food I've had tasted really bad xp But I made myself eat it or my mum would kill me :D
That's strange halfway through last year (2008) I went vegetarian that's about 5-6 months and I really loved meat before hand. My reasons are the same. And I feel queasy when I see meat in the shops and such. And the smell is just...disturbing..
Hehe that's heaps coincidental xp We both in Australia too, unless your name is like that because you like Australia *shrugs*

Suki 01-06-2009 11:46 AM

I don't eat red meat, fish and chicken only. Can't bare the thought of eating a mammal.

SHAD0W 01-06-2009 12:28 PM

Did someone mention rabbit food?

I've nothing against veggies but it must be pretty boring..?

Saying that, i eat nothing but meat, a true carnivore :D

Chicken, Bacon, Burgers - Yum :D

Best bit is when you have a chicken breast and a fried egg, and dip the chicken in the egg (i believe theres a similar japanese dish called parent and child noodles?)

Its like, 0 dignity for you Miss Chicken.

I know whats coming next.. "oh your gonna be soo unhealthy" lol no.

I'm not overweight (well i am, but its muscle) and you only live once, so im gonna die happy knowing I ate like a king :D

Veggies are all about saving animals right? stop hurting gods creatures for food? Your doing worse, your eating their food ;)

LainIwakura 01-06-2009 12:36 PM

Being a vegetarian is tough, be ready to face a lot of negative comments and whatnot. I'm a vegetarian too. Who cares what people say?

ARoomwithaMOOSE 01-06-2009 02:54 PM

@ Shadow
Trust me being vegetarian is anything but boring:)

@ AngelRage01
Don't let what people say bother you;}
If your doing what you feel is right then what other people think dosen't matter.
Being vegetarian is not alway's easy but it's alot easier then 50 years ago:)

I have been a vegetrian since I was little.
And yes I have gotten a lot of S*** for it to.(Including being called may names and being made fun of)
I'm happy with what I eat and that's all that matters to me.
I eat chicken and fish but I will NOT eat pig, cow, deer,or moose.
I find that being a vegetarian you learn to try different foods and recipes, which is fun:)

ARoomwithaMOOSE 01-06-2009 03:11 PM

@Shadow

Ok;] Here's a reaction for you (this a quote from a tv show:)) " I could understand a few carrots or maybe a little lettuce, but right to broccoli"

Oh and you could try watching the episode of Invader Zim with the space meat if you want a laugh;}

MissMisa 01-06-2009 03:15 PM

My best friend has been a veggie all her life and no-one mentions it, it's really never actually been a problem.

With the whole animal thing I doubt you are actually saving any animals by not eating them, but if it's the principle that's off putting then that's fair enough.

I was vegetarian for a while but I just felt basically awful the whole time, it supposed to be healthy and stuff and I even took vitamins and felt naff lol.

xYinniex 01-06-2009 03:19 PM

>.<

No offence, I find most vegetarians in the West seem to stick with a few veggies and either quorn or pasta.

I have loads of friends that are vegetarian, and they don't even know how to cook/eat or even heard of ingredients like soya bean/tofu/Kimchi/etc.

Similarly, if they call you anorexic, There is no need to sink as low as them and call them obese. Meat eaters are no way obese, just cuz we eat meat doesn't mean we eat it all the time, a majority of the time in fact. Actually, I only eat meat 3/4 times a week, its too expensive sometimes.

Yeah, it's really sad...the thing is, the dude who owns the houses, his wife subs at my school now and then and I have to act polite to her...though she's cool anyway, but really old and wrinkly

AngelRage01 01-07-2009 10:44 AM

SHAD0W- First of all, I don't care what you eat, this thread is for vegetarians or people who have positive comments, dangling all the meat talk in front of me doesn't bother me, everyone else has tried and failed.
I'm not going to say your fat, but your cholestrol on the other hand...have a nice heart attack.
I, and probably alot of other people in this thread, would appreciate it if you didn't insult us, call us herbies and such, being a jackass in general. Thanks.

LainIwakura- At first it was tough, but then you get used to it and don't really care much. :) I should take your advice, I usually don't care about anything else but what people say about this, it's like and open wound and people rub salt in it..then set it on fire, very uncomfortable.

ARoomwithaMOOSE- Exactly, you get to try so many different tastes you'd never have dreamed of. I'm glad of that, glad I wasn't around 50 years ago O.o

MissMisa-Wow your friend is lucky. Yeah it's about principle. Lol well apparently certain blood types can't be vegetarian otherwise it makes you really sick, there's like special foods you eat for certain blood types which are good for the person. It's a 'lil confusing but yeah.

xYinniex- for their own health they should probably research it more, but least they try.

KikiBunny23- Lol old and wrinkly, guess it's not her fault..or is it..
Yeah it would be horrible, glad there's nothing like that around where I live O.O

noodle 01-07-2009 01:02 PM

I couldn't be a Vegetarian. I need my proteins... There is no need for people to say, "you can get protein from other foods"... I already know this!.

I don't like eating too many eggs and dairy products. I'm not a great chef, so cooking beans (soy etc) is a no no for me. I like a lot of nut's and seeds, but lets face it, you can't always make a good meal with nuts and seeds, and they're terribly expensive.

However, with all that said, I'm not actually a big meat eater. I definately enjoy it, and whenever I cook it's a main ingrediant, but I can always manage to mix up something if there is no meat!

Nah, it's Hal's fault (her husband) he's one of those old people that should live on a hill w/ tons of cats

wilsontheterrible 01-07-2009 04:48 PM

I believe you've found your vetetarians although I expected more.

I'm going to be the mean guy on the forum and say that if they are throwing around insults than fire them right back tenfold. Tit for tat as it were. If you just take it they don't see themselves doing something wrong, give them a negative reaction and anything further is an act of malice, not of good spirited teasing.

That said, I've been known to initially dislike those who are vegetarian or vegan, mostly due to very bad previous experiences with them. I've even attempted to see their side of things and tried going veg for a month...long story short my body is not compatible with the lifestyle.

あー やっぱり。。。

Thunda 01-07-2009 08:28 PM

The people around you are just gays. Though, meat is neat.

AngelRage01 01-08-2009 09:31 AM

noodle - Yeah it is hard to cook stuff when you aren't exactly the best cook, all my food tastes crap, but only because I've touched it so yeah.
Yeah alot of foods now are very expensive, unfortunately.

KikiBunny23- Lol, haha, sucks to be her XP Serves her right for getting married to the old fart :D But then again, you can't choose who you like, but she must've done something bad to get that Karma =\

wilsontheterrible- That's a good point, least they'll know then that they've upset me. That's nice that you tried to see the point of views and yeah as I posted above somewhere apparently it's something to do with blood types *shurgs* So it definately isn't for everyone, it can make people constantly sick.

Thunda-Lol thanks. Nice rhyming.

Kitsuneko 01-08-2009 09:43 AM

I'm not a dedicated vegetarian, but stick to it as much as possible for health reasons. As long as it is tasty and not too spicy or downright nasty, I'm good with it. I like well prepared seitan, and there are some remarkable vegetarian products available nowadays that are startlingly meat-like.

I like the less spicy Indian vegetarian dishes, and also Egyptian and Mediterranean vegetarian cuisine. Very nice!

I don't understand why you got teased for choosing to go vegetarian. I guess some folks have to make themselves feel better by picking on someone else. Try not to let it get to you, okay?

:ywave:

Wondering, are you an absolutely strict vegetarian, or do you allow dairy and/or eggs?

Livvie 01-18-2009 02:34 AM

Well they shouldn't be treating you 'like crap'. How old are you, if you don't mind me asking?
Sure, having to cater for vegetarians is a little annoying, but if they're your friend it shouldn't be a big deal. And if they're not your friend, ignore them.
