I have said that the award was a surprise to me and to him, and I am sure there are a dozen people at least that deserve it more. But you said he deserves to be last on a list of names of almost 200 names you don't know (though you are taking it back a little now). Anyone can be a nominee, so, again, I think it is purely emotional to automatically put the standing president's name at the bottom. The president of Iran's name could be on that list for all we know.
It is a political award given out by representative politicians, so calling the choice political isn't very ground-shaking. The committee has said that it wasn't for specific achievements but for the hope and inspiration Pres. Obama has brought to the world community. So it is harder to quantify than orphanages or hospitals built, but I can't say is is valueless. So Congratulations to Obama, and a wish to move onward and upward. |
You welcome. :) Well, even the posts outside the US an PL are written by Poles. A heards that this site is created by Polish guys. It's nice accent today, after the President's deed. :)

Even if you guys don't think he deserves it, why are you so upset that he won it. He is an American representative, and has wont the nobel peace prize. Arent you guys happy that the rest of the world is more accepting of us? Arent you glad that we are becoming well liked in the world? Even if you don't think he deserves it, I would hope you would be happy for the President. I do understand that not everyone is from the US here. But the ones who are from the US, i don't understand. Do you guys want to go back to being one of the most hated countries? I know I don't, and I for one am glad Obama has such a following all over the world.

And here is a quote from Michael Moore that I found very interesting.
"P.S. Your opposition has spent the morning attacking you for bringing such good will to this country. Why do they hate America so much? I get the feeling that if you found the cure for cancer this afternoon they'd be denouncing you for destroying free enterprise because cancer centers would have to close. There are those who say you've done nothing yet to deserve this award. As far as I'm concerned, the very fact that you've offered to walk into the minefield of hate and try to undo the irreparable damage the last president did is not only appreciated by me and millions of others, it is also an act of true bravery. That's why you got the prize. The whole world is depending on the U.S. -- and you -- to literally save this planet. Let's not let them down." heres the link to the whole article: Congratulations President Obama on the Nobel Peace Prize -- Now Please Earn it! | MichaelMoore.com |

I'm not from the US, but try to understand your comrades(sorry for Soviet vocabulary, but i have no right world, I forgot). The can be not very happy of Obama's presidency. And of course, imagine how the comitee looks. It's not a voice of a people. Did people said, that Obama is working hard for world peace? No. This is the voice of the infuential people, who are creating new range of authorities. Do you think Al Gore did more than Irena Sendlerowa? Not beacuse she was polish. (BTW, Lech Walesa also shoudn't get the Nobel Prize) It doesn't mattes what nationalisty she is. |
Yes I do know the difference between a state and country, although I think you mean nation. Or at least that is how I was always taught. I dont think you have to like anyone. Im not trying to say Obama is perfect. I dont think he is perfect. I was more gearing my questions to people who are American, but they can apply to anyone. Here in the US there is a sense of hating Obama for the sake of hating Obama. Even when he does good things he is ridiculed for something. This is what I dont get, hating Obama just becuase your side did not win. Just like when people cheered when the Chicago did not get the Olympic bid. They were happy because something Obama supported failed. It does not make any sense to me. Someone clear this up for me. I dont understand how you cant be at leas somewhat happy when YOUR president wins a prestigious award. Sorry for people from other countries that dislike him. No matter what you think about him though, its hard to deny that he has much more of a international appeal than previous US presidents.
|
Do you think, I'm against Obama's Prize, because he's American? I hated Obama before the Nobel Prizes contest, and I think 99% of Obama's enemies felt the same. It's not really important, that Sendlerowa was Polish, I just respect her sacrify. Do you know, that Germans could kill her or send to Auschwitz/Chelmno nad Nerem/Majdanek/Treblinka camp? I think it's more than Gore's insanity. And I hate Gore, not because he won, not because he's American. I hate, because he is, who he is. That's all.
You should remember about the sense of the the US President. Why something like this exist? It exists for American people - Obama is your President, not mine. He wasnn't elected for me, to make me happy due to his better than Bush's appeal. He was elected for you. And he is working as a President every day, serving to American people, leading the USA and representing all American people and values. Not for me. I have my own President. For example, my President, Lech Kaczynski is winning the Nobel or sth like this. I'm not happy, that means the Comitee is a total mistake. Kaczynski has shown today that he is a criminal. |
I was saying that stuff more for American people. And I never said you disliked him becuase he was American. I said many Americans hate him just for the sake of hating him. And I know you have your own president. Obama wont effect you directly as far as laws go. But its hard to deny international politics. Even though he is not your direct president, he still has an impact on you. And since you seem to be so passionate about disliking obama. Why is that, you even said that we elected him for us not you. Why do you care so much?
Just a question, not to be rude or demeaning to anyone, but who here has taken an intro world politics class? I'm just wondering, I really am curious. |

It doesn't really make much sense to me? If what the news stations said is true then he was only in office 12 days. Not enough time to make a change. He didn't win it based off what he's done but rather what he's promised to do.

Now i will admit i was taken a back when i heard it since this was not even on my scope. I find it funny no one even mentioned his speech on winning it. He pretty much acknowledged what many of you are complaining about. He himself stated that he does not feel he has done enough to deserve the award, nor does he feel that he is more deserving than winners of years past, he also stated that there is a lot more work to do. I actually thought he was going to decline it but instead he took it on good faith for what he is trying to accomplish and used the honor of winning the award as motivation. It was clearly stated WHY he wont its no secret its not some cover up. learn how to read its right there for gods sake and if that is not enough the committee also stated why he won because of what he IS trying to accomplish not what he has accomplished but what he IS aiming to accomplish which denuclearization. Do i think it was too soon for him to win it, in a way yes because he has a lot to deal with right now and this is just a distraction and another reason for people to attack him. So i will end this with my usual comment. If any of you think you can do a better job in the world shut up and put up. I dont care if your American, African, English or Chinese if you think you got what it takes to make the world better than just talking then do it. |
Ok you people need to do some research before you start freaking out. People are making a huge deal about him only being in office before being nominated. This is not when he was picked for the prize, only nominated. Many people get nominated. And I think everyone needs to read this article, but here is a quick quote that I hope calms some of you down, or at leas it should.
"Oftentimes, the winners are people who have not completed their work toward peace, but who are at a critical juncture in their work and who need the support that winning the Nobel Peace Prize brings." full article: What Does It Take to Win the Nobel Peace Prize - How Are Nobel Peace Prize Winners Chosen - Nobel Peace Prize Selection |

Hm, didn't think much of that. If his humbly accepting and winning the Nobel Peace Prize will make this country be viewed positively for once by other countries, I'm cool with it. The fact that an American in general won makes me happy. Could care less as to who won it, but I still feel that what he was doing during his campaign had a lot to do with his being nominated in the first place, as he's attempting to strengthen ties with other countries, nations, and allies.

Giving Ghadafi 400K at the last UN meeting.... Being weak on issues that make America's enemies smack their lips. The socialist card is being played because of this year's socialist acts. Do we need to really list them? Maybe not all from Obama directly, but strongly from this administation as a whole. We have a president who priorities are to travel across the globe in two convoys that have been estimated at 2 million dollars to try to round of the 2016 olympics for Chicago of all places.. where we get national news of Chicago gangs out of control the same freaking night!!!?!?! At the same time Obama flies the General Mcchrystal to the runway in Denmark to meet/scold him for 25 mins to tell him to keep his mouth shut to the media and that his months old requests are going to be put on the back burner... (By the way did anyone read the President's and First Lady's speech for the bid for the 2016 Olympics... my god... High School Sophmore level speeches at best. ) When I see stuff like I saw on Detroit on the news last week, I thought it was Katrina all over again. I see infrustructure collapsing, I see disasters like Katrina, States that can't balance a budge and declaring bankruptcy of the state....I should weep, Americans should weep. Luckily these places are few if you look at the country as a whole, but these problems are growing and spreading... Government health insurance isn't going to help this. Printing money and wealth distribution is going to help this. Spending our way into oblivion isn't going to solve this. Rewarding failure isn't going to help. Crxpping on the military isn't going to help. America has got real problems, and what is being addressed is not helping these issues. You can knock Fox news all you want, but this is one of the few media sources that are actually making real changes in rooting out corruption and inaquticies of government. They break the story first, and other media sources as CNN, CBS and ABC are having no choice but to follow suit. Government in the US is out of control and officials live like rock stars at citizens expense. Priorities are so far out of wack. The worst part of it is ... they know exactly what they want and are doing it. If anything this administration is waking up the nation fast...and the nation isn't liking what they see in what THIS and PAST government has become. I thank Obama for that even if it was done indirectly. I should of had a V8. |

Yes, i would love if you listed the socialist acts. I have heard many "reasons" before, but with some simple research, all of those reasons have been debunked. Its just a buzz word that is meant to strike fear and hatred into the eyes of his opponents.
And I wouldn't hate Fox news so much if they were actually as good as you claim. The reason they "break the story first" is becuase they jump onto stories when they don't even know all the facts. I cant even tell you how many things I have seen that just use speculation and opinion, over fact. If people are going to make fun of Obama for being a tv personality, they should hate Fox news just as much. They do not use news reporters, just tv/radio personalities to host their shows And I do not see any problem whatsoever for him trying to get Chicago into the olympics. In fact I loved it. It could have been a great boost for us. People hated it becuase it was an Obama project. "And this he has better things to do" argument is old too. Can the man do nothing else. Anytime he does anything, he has better things to do. |

I complain, you complain, everyone complains... But the majority of us aren't complaining to say "well, if I was up there, I'd be doing a better job". I complain about Algerian politics non stop, the government is corrupt like almost every African government... However, me not being a lawyer, or a politician, I know that I wouldn't be able to do a better job... BUT, I still complain at things I don't like... Every citizen has a right to complain about their country! Comes with something westerners love to call Freedom of Speech! Edit: Also, that little paragraph about why they gave Obama the prize is the problem with many people. I think you'll find that the majority of people that are against this prize are attacking this reason, not Obama... It seems people are too sensitive... Maybe the media in the US has been too negative, so Obama supporters assume that everyone that is against anything Obama, is attacking Obama... This is not the case at all! The closest thing I have to being negative towards Obama is the Obama craze! And even that, it's more a problem with his foreign supporters than Obama himself!! |
Maybe instead of 'congratulations', here we should say おめでと! Haha
Also if you want best unbiased news on event, I go read news in places like Japan Times or China Daily- other countries are good source of a view! There might be a lot of this award we do not know all the details of, so we shouldn't be harsh to judge. Also we should always be happy for good things and not try to say bad things because it makes us look bad and bitter. So let's be nice to our fellow humans- 'omedeto'! (What a speech, do I win the Peace Prize now? Thank you! :P) |
"Don't get me wrong, FOX "News" is incredibly entertaining. "
i disagree,... i supported the afghanistan / iraq war, and still do, but even i couldnt stand more than 5 minutes of fox's right wing bollocks. and wow 11 pages,.... scandanavians havent had this much effect on the world since ABBA! :P |
Obama get the Prize. It's a fact, but it doesn't mean, it's is good desicions. It doesnn't mean all American people must be happy just because US Prezident won the Prize. Is your duty? Is it my duty to be happy, because Lech Walesa won the Peace Nobel in the past? Do you thin the 305(?) millions of people must to be happy? People in Soviet Russia, the Soviet Union must loved Lenin and Stalin, and they loved them. The Campaign looked like total insanity, and this insanity made one step more. That prize is the confirmation of the changing in US and global politics. Socialism, protectionism, trade unions, ecology instead freedom.
Samurai said that Nobel has been given by commies to commies, and he's right. That's why Obama and Walesa won. |

People have the right to complain we do it in our everyday lives it natural. My final comment was not really meant for all but more for the poster i quoted and those who think like him. They think they have all the answers, they could do this better they say that while putting down someone who you dont have to like but can knowledge as working damn hard to get where he is. I admire Obama's hardwork to get where he is today and where he was before he was president so when i see someone who obviously has not made any contributions to society act like a smartass yea im going to say something. Which is why i asked him what have you done this year to better the world even if its just a little bit. he could have said what he said without being completely disrespectful and way off base. The attack was not aimed at you or like minded people. But even I understood why he won the prize in the 1 min it took for me to research it. Freedom of Speech damn right i support it, it allows people to say jack ass things and allows me to call them on their bullshit. All this prize did was add to that mans pressure to preform. I actually dont think he wanted but of course he couldnt decline. i really dont care about the prize that much i want the focus to shift back to fixing the problems that need fixing. So the sooner this dies down the better. |
President Obama didn't do anything. Weren't other nominies actually doing something life threatening and dangerous for the sake of their country and for themselves?

Ill post this quote again, because Im not sure anyone really read it.
"Oftentimes, the winners are people who have not completed their work toward peace, but who are at a critical juncture in their work and who need the support that winning the Nobel Peace Prize brings." And I still am not anywhere near convinced that he is a socialist. I have heard many arguments saying he is a socialist, but none have many facts. Health care is a big one that people call him a socialist for, I don't get it. And just becuase Fox news has had the balls to report something a couple times doesn't mean they do it all the time or are perfect. They report many false thing as well. Plus some of their "newscasters" report opinions not facts. |
Nobel Peace Prize should be earned period.
Not for something you're in a "critical juncture" for. Carter got the award also for being in a critical juncture cause he didn't did sh!t for this country. MLK Jr. earned it Mother Teresa earned it Noble Peace Prize is a lost cause now. |
Clint, I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. I could go back through point by point, but the little issues are not on topic and we are basically getting into opinion on both sides.
Regardless, let's hope that this award leads to the president helping make the world a better place. I think we can all agree to that. |

Socialism means the government takes over doing things, deciding things, and running things from the private sector. They are the ones that make the decisions under socialism, not the people. Whether it is creating a government-run healthcare system, or requiring everyone to buy health insurance and being punished with thousands of dollars in additional taxes if you don't comply, that is government making the decisions. That's socialism. No one said Fox is "perfect", but they are a heck of a lot better than the sycophants at ABC, CBS, CNN, and (MS)NBC. They might as well be a state-run media, for all their objectivity toward him, and they unabashedly did everything they could to get him elected and to not report on any scandals. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
