If you were to visit Japan, would you go to McDonald's?
I am just curious if people that want to or have visited Japan on a trip ever went to McDonald's?
|
If i go i would go to a Restaurant with more traditonal style food :vsign:
|
if i save all my money i have and go to japan i'm not going to go to some crappy mcdonalds i don't even go here....i hate mcdonalds....eww....
|
Let's face it.
With 3,800 outlets in a country the size of Montana, it's pretty difficult to avoid going into one once in a while. Tourist or resident... |
I did actually for a a couple of reasons;
* I was a newbie at that time, and have no knowledge of Japanese food or whatsoever. * The seniors that I was with at that time are not a fan of Japanese food and really believes that eating in McDo is much cheaper than going to a Japanese restaurant, which I found out later on that is not specifically true. Now, if I'm with some friends from my country who still prefer to eat at Mcdo, I do accompany them, can't force them to eat the food they don't like. And sometimes when I'm craving for McFlurry ( a big fan ) . I prefer to grab a bowl of gyudon/botadon at yoshinoya :D |
I don't care for McDonald's here at home, so I couldn't see myself going to a McDonald's there, unless desperate for a bite to eat or either I get in the mood for a drink like a milkshake. I'm pretty sure Japanese McDonald's have them too, based on the commercials I've seen while watching Heyx3.

(tho I'm not from the US, so the question really doesn't apply as much) |
I did when I lived there quite a bit, but not so much when I vacation there. It is a different taste, though.
Take home a wax napkin for a souvenir! |
On my first trip I held out until I was at Narita waiting for the plane to leave. On my second trip I was so busy most of the time I would just grab some Mcds (even had Wendy's once). Although, on my next trip I want to try the El Torito that is in Ikebukuro.
|
if i was going broke i prolley would its a good way to save $$$
|
As I recall, I only went to McDonalds once or twice in my 2 years there, just to see if it was the same as the American one. The portions were smaller, but the taste was the same. I also visited Mos Burger once, Wendys a few times, and KFC about a dozen times (I liked their extra spicy chicken, which they don't have in the US). But the vast majority of the time, I had more local cuisine... ramen, donburi, kara'age, tonkatsu, various Chinese food, etc.
|
Last option.
|
No way! I'd go to Mosburger instead :D
|
lol:rolleyes: hmmmmm I will go to mc donalds because it is in Japan but I dont like Mc Donal
|
I wouldn't bother going to McDonald's in Japan if I were there because I'd want to feast on their more speciality foods and delicacies rather than the commercial ones which can be found anywhere you go :P
|
There are localized food in McDs at different country, so just take it as a experience for "local fast food"
|
When I went to Japan, due to the fact that I was 4 other guys who disliked Japanese food and who were... well. typically English, we went into McD and KFC alot for them.
If I was alone, I could've not seen McD at all and had lived. |
Where else can you have the Tsukimi burger, or the Mega Mac? Only at McDonald's in Japan. The menu changes according to the season, so there is often more variety than you'll find at American McDonald's restaurants.
I'm waiting for the choco-pie to return to the menu, it should be any day now... |
I probably would. I'm not that big on McDonalds, but it would be interesting to see it in a different country and see how it differs from the ones that I've seen in Canada.
|
i would rather go to a ramen shop or something like that, to mcdonalds i can go in germany too^^

How very American. Instead of visiting Japan and immersing yourself in the culture, someone will actually eat McDonald's while there.
*sighs* |
I'd do it, at least once, just for the experience of it. And to see if it's just as bad as the American McDonald's over here.

I dont eat at McDonalds as it is, but I may try it just to see if there is a difference. I had the oportunity to eat at one when I was in Tahiti, but I stayed away from it. I was more interested in the Tahitian culture and food.
Now my gf on the other hand, who is from the Philippines loves "McDo". She did go to one with her friends during her last visit here. Im guessing when she makes her final move here I may have to break down and go more than once a year. |

My Japanese teacher said it tastes just the same there as it does here, and if you go to Japan please eat some traditional food and try to eat McDonalds just once to get it out of your system. I don't like fast food anyhow, once every few months is enough. Japanese, Chinese and Thai foods are much better by my taste :D |
I've always wanted to try the shrimp burger thing I saw on their McDonald's homepage.
((It was for a Business Computer Integrated Systems, BCIS, class assignment)) |

Why wouldn't I? The menu is localized so it wouldn't be the same as the McDonalds I could go to here.

Mc_chok-N-Puke i hate it grr it spawns unhealthy ppl and lazy bums who don't wanna cook good stuff! |
i heard people sleep at mcdonald's when they miss their train home. hmm..who did i hear that from.. =_= but to answer the question, yes, yes i would.
|
We go... fairly often? I`d say 2 or 3 times a month, though less recently.
Why? Because it`s cheaper than picking up something at a conbini - and hot on top of that. You could pay 240 yen for a hot sandwich at a conbini, or get one for 105 at McDonalds. If you`re on your way home at a late hour and want to save money but still have something hot to eat - I see nothing wrong with it. |

And, if you've ever seen the kitchen facilities in a Tokyo apartment (sink too small to put a dinner plate in, a single burner electric stove which takes 20 minutes to boil water, and a refrigerator only big enough for a 6 pack of beer), you would understand why so few here people cook. |

But anyways; Answering the question... sure, why not? I mean, low on money and want something fast, sounds fine to me. |

Fast food is a way of life here, even in small towns young people will buy prepared meals at the local convenience or grocery store. The usual is the typical Obento box lunch. God knows I eat these things at least 5 times a week. |

Thanks for the explanation! I learned something new today, that typically Japanese young [single] people do not cook very much. Thanks! (^_^) Haha |
When I visited Korea, I found Korean McDonald has different taste from Japanese one.
I recommend you to try Japanese McDonald for checking your sensitivity of taste. |
During the 6 months I was there last year I went 3 times.
The first time was just to see if it had a different taste. The burgers did but the fries were the same. I think they used different sauces on the Big Mac. The third time I had one of the local sandwiches that isn't on the US menu. As for why would you go? Sometimes you just want a burger just like sometimes you want some good sushi or soba. |
