I agree, DON'T get a tat that has Kanji in it or Hiragana, or Katakana, etc...

We saw a guy with a tat on his calf muscle, it said "Fast cats" --- we asked him what he thought it meant, he said Brave Dragon... my wife and I just said, politely, no sorry, that’s not true, she wrote out the Kanji for it and gave it to him, he left that napkin on the table at the food court, we just laughed once he was gone, I feel sorry for him.

Also we saw a guy with a Kanji hat on one day,... Pill Chicken was the Kanji, LOL!

Its like when Japanese wear "Engrish" on their clothes, "We can fast one rest over spot." --- What the hell does that mean? LOL!

Okay just my .02 worth.

Peace! and if you do, get one, post a picture, please! :pinkart: :D

 All of us older members are chiming in with the same warning..... Don't do it! And I say this even though I have a kanji tattooed on my thigh.

First a permanent mark such as a tatto without long serious thought is foolish. Will you still like your design in 40 years?

Secondly, as everyone is pointing out, you are risking a misinterpretation that could mark you for life with something really stupid that is nothing close to what you meant.

For the record, I personally researched mine in Japanese, Chinese (2 dialects) and Korean with several texts and native speakers before inking "Kuma". I was not about to trust a stranger or some anglo to know the correct kanji.

Kuma (熊; クマ; くま, Kuma?) means "bear" in Japanese.

Why Kuma if I may ask?

Hewa!;)

I've been the taloned grizzly bear with silver streaks in my hair since forever, though someone finally put a name on it for me in the mid 1980s.

Oh cool, that is neat, I can see that tat being worth it, but still like you said, really got to put some thought into it. I'm in the process of growing my hair out, been 20+ years since I had long hair, ... I got gray hair I never knew I had

Peace! :D

I thought people got tattoos because the image or meaning of the tattoo was so important to them they were prepared to mark themselves with it permanently.

This has "future regret" written all over it.

お握り would be awesome.

Things like stars, angels, tribals, barbed wire, kanji, and tramp stamps pretty much brand you as a loser for life. Don't do it, puh-leez

My sergeant just got a wrist tattoo. He took the same design as his grandfather's, but did it in color as opposed to the bluish-green, which was all they had back then. Very cool

Pick something meaningful. My friend and her mother are tattoo artists - and if you came into their shop saying "I want something Japanese" you'd be on the next train home

If you have something you want to say about yourself, use your words.
