Fat collects in two forms - White adipose tissue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Stored for energy and insulation. Combine that with people living in colder climates, whereby heat is also a scarce commodity, then fat is very valuable indeed; especially brown fat which can be burned by the body to produce heat. Brown adipose tissue - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is increasingly well understood by the scientific community. The differences between how we have evolved, and the amount of food we have access to now is at the very heart of the issue. Evolutionarily speaking, we aren't different to our Neolithic ancestors, who didn't have access to McDonalds and if they did, they'd be fucking huge. In my own opinion, I think that bigger girls look cuter in it than the skinnies. If you think about it, Lolita is pretty much based off of old Victorian and 19th century dress. In those days, it was the fat ones who were considered attractive. This opinion might also be a little biased. (life-long civil war reenactor) I've seen a lot of bigger people wearin the vintage style in my day. Haha. But I think that both skinny people and bigger people can pull it off.
Who has the right to say that you can't wear something because of your size? It's expression. Why deny somebody that right just because they "don't fit the standard?" Beauty isn't only on the exterior, but the interior as well. Someone can be skinny and beautiful, but still be hideous on the inside. It all comes back to judging. Don't judge. Didn't we learn that as children? |
regarding size and shape. i'm sure there are a few ways to alter and redesign clothes. the "fat" girls clothes may not look great with the "skinny" one and vice versa. Virtual Fashion Works here's where i got my designing toy. it's totally fun.

I am really indignant. Why a fat girl can't wear a lolita dress? I am fat girl and still wear my lolita dress. I think my sweet lolita dress help accentuate my cuteness.

rawr
I think some fat girls can pull it off. But not very overweight. ON A SIDENOTE:
I always throw up my food when seeing fat girls with booty shorts( NO OFFENSE) But dude its ******* gross. like the legfat and assfat jus jiggling to no extent. its like COVER IT UP>!!!! |
I think it depends a lot on the person, their atittude, and fashion sense. Ive seen some skinny chicks that couldnt pull off loli because it just didnt suit them whereas someone overweight totally rocked the look.
|
It's their body everything is up to them. I admit that sometimes I see people wear or have hairstyle that's very mismatch to them, but do I have the right to stop them? NO! because it's their right so eventhough I don't like them, I got to respect them. That's the rule of the society. You don't need to agree, but you got to respect!
|
I think slender girls pull it off better. The Lolita style though has never really appealed to my taste. It reminds me of little girls, and I'm not really into that loli pornish stuff. >_<"
I think girls, that are overweight, should stop trying to squeeze themselves into something that doesn't fit. Not all clothes will fit EVERYONE - and that's a fact. |

On animanga events, a lot of people wear lolita and cosplay, even though it's clearly not fit for them. In the cosplay department, a lot of them treat it as some sort of carnival, neglecting all the rules to cosplay and just do whatever they want (even though it means they fail).
As for lolita, you can't forbid someone to wear something, but you need to have self-knowledge. Nobody can forbid someone to put an underwear on its head and walk down the street, but if you have some common sense, you know it's ridiculous. If you're overweight, just watch out with what you're wearing. You know that fashion is mean, and it's clearly not for yourself (people who say that are lying, or they don't realize that it's for other people). Fashion isn't for yourself, you're happy because you think it's beautiful. Beauty is something subjective, something that other people decide. For instance, the sense for beauty changes throughout the century. It doesn't make sense that people say they wear something, regardless of what other people think. Because I haven't heard anyone who likes to wear underwear up its head as fashion. But I heard about people who like lolita, because they feel accepted in a lolita group, even though not in other fashion groups. |
Besides the fashion industry aiming at presenting a waifishly thin image, in more stylized artwork, its a lot easier to draw thin people. I know because I've drawn both. Lolita as a style of art pretty much requires it, as the girls aren't presenting themselves as little girls as much as they are porcelain dolls. (IMO)
When cosplaying, I think one's body does play into it. This can be unfortunate for thicker people, darker skinned people, ect because there's just not really many characters to pick from. ![]() |
Everyone should do what they think makes them happy...!!!
_______________________________________________________________ If a person (nevermind the weight!!) dresses strange/revealingly in public they should be ble to deal with the consequences themselves . (gossip, chitchat, being offended) That includes gothic/lolita , cosplay and other out-of-the-ordinary styles (punks) as well........ =^___^= |

like... wearing shapes just to show off to other girls and to say that i, a guy, can pull off certain outfits better than they can =P geez i'm spiteful >.>'' so to be on topic.... I'm fine w/ it as long as no one's committing a [fashion] crime :3 (look at my avatar =D) |
Overweight girls have the right to wear lolita, or whatever they want; but let's be frank, they just don't have the privilege to look better than people whose physiques are more adaptable. Same goes for any other person.
|
I really think the chubby girls look so cute in Lolita wear. Little stumpy fingers, round eyes, pudgy legs, curly hair... they look so innocent & childlike, like a doll. More authentic.
You don't see skinny dolls do you ? |
Haha, for some reason, I'm drawn amiably to your post. I take back what I said. Plump/chubby/flabby girls/guys may look nice in anything - lolita included. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
|
I'd say the Lolita style doesn't suit anyone. At all. Overweight or skinny, those girls would look much better in normal clothes. I don't get why people feel the need to tell the world how different and special they are by putting on weird clothing. Cause that's what it is, no offense. I agree everyone can wear whatever they want, but then again it's okay for people to judge them, because they moment they decide to go out in the streets looking that way, they know they'll get stares, and it's because they want to be judged and noticed that they do it. I don't mean it in a bad way, but it's obvious they wanna get people's attention, otherwise I don't get why they'd wanna dress that way. They might feel comfy and pretty and whatever else, but the fact that they choose to stand out from a crowd talks about who they are, and if you want people to notice that, you might a well be prepared to get stares.

@Suki-san: great summary x3 ! THat's just how it is!

Pull off the lolita style better?
not at all Do you think overweight girls should just stop wearing lolita? yes, but I also think the far too skinny girls also should stop Do you think brand should be made in bigger sizes because thin girls don't look as good in it? no, dear god please no for the sake of all men's eyes unfortunately the super thin girls just buy the kid-versions and you can' t prevent it :( a little chubby is best imo :) |

And here I thought thinking for yourself was a good thing why would you want to dress boring if you can afford to look beautiful? |
i think brands should be in bigger sizes too because i myself find sometime difficulty while shopping...so this should be there in order to release this tension

=O PAEDO CONVENTION. Oh wait, sorry, that was a an easy mistake.
Look, honey, I know that we women regard youthfulness as this amazing life source, but think back to when you were 14? No one looked that amazing, in fact most of us were going through a spotty puberty phase, in addition to terrifying period cramps because you've just never felt pain like that before. |

I'm not saying everyone should dress like me, I'm saying if they wanna be taken seriously, they shouldn't dress like they live in a world where everyday's dress up in a costume day. Period. Dress boring...? So not getting yourself to look like you're about to entener some costume contest is boring. I can afford whatever I want, but I don't want to look like I'm stuck in the age of 10. And like I said, no girl looks better in Lolita clothes than they do in normal clothes. Unless, of course, they are dressing up. I suggest you go to a job interview looking like that, see how proud that makes you feel in that situation. |

I like it because its doll like/elegant and not all of it looks "kiddish" what about classic lolita?or gothic lolita? You're just thinking about sweet lolita In the 1700s-1800s women wore clothes similar to classic lolita all the time are you saying they all looked like 10 year olds?hell if you look a paintings of marie antoinette some of her dresses look a lot like the lolita dresses worn today I dont like attention at all its just I find "normal clothes" boring to look at and I wish there werent so many people with your mentality so people could wear what they like w/o random people harassing them or making weird comments |

Bigger girls, when doing Lolita, imo, don't look as great as the thinner ones who do it. However, when a thinner girl does Decora, she doesn't look as good as the bigger ones who do Decora. Being that I can never be "thin", I just stick with what works for me. And if I ever do think about doing Lolita in the future, I've got some dieting to do. Haha.
|
Well technically styles aren't limited to a certain body type because they're made in different sizes, however that's not to say that a certain body type looks better in certain styles or that a certain style was created for a certain body type. As far as Lolita go, i think it's usually the slimmer the easier it is to pull it off but I don't doubt those that aren't as skinny can also make it look cute and attractive.

I change my answer/
Healthy girls look good in anything, better than thinner or overweight girls. End of. |
i really dont think weight matters when clothing comes into play.
i think how confident someone is while wearing a certain style is all that matters. |

Totally agree! Especially about the cosplay part. I say wear what you'll have fun in. Although as a curvy girl, I tend to avoid anything with as many layers and bows as a lolita getup! Something with a bias-cut and a flattering neckline suits so much better! |
yes i think the lolita style is always better because i always prefer this style but only for the smart girls and in this style they always looks very beautiful and i love this style but not for the overweight girls
