Kana question! - 02-11-2008, 02:07 PM

I was doing my homework and i noticed the word 'hotchikisu' wich means stapler but i was wondering how to write this word in kana because there is no symbol for 't' alone??

my guess is you just write ほちきす, that the t just isn't there, like the M in romaji changes into an N symbol in kana but still not sure so.. anyone knows? thank =D

the t comes from a small 'tsu' character - same as Hatchobori (place in Tokyo)
I guess it just makes it easier to read in romaji than a cc?

The answer is: ホッチキス

Hope that helps!

nah, it is a loan word which comes from an American company name - EH Hotchkiss (I discovered this by accident, it confused the hell out of me until I saw the name on the staplers we use at work lol)
