Well I'm not saying it was the best answer either, and I personally wouldn't have answered that way myself. But it's not like he's lying or anything. There just simply wasn't any tact. But whenever a situation like this happens, someone else always has to play a victim and make some snarky comment about America as if that's the reason why someone feels the way they feel.

These may sound like serious shows but there are acutally quite funny:) if you can understand Japanese language good enough and educational as well.

Last night on Keyhole I saw this feature where they blindfolded people to see if they could tell the difference between if there was air conditioning or not.
Now initially I thought it was boring,but then they made it fun to watch.

It might seem vapid,it might seem tacky to us in the western world but at least it's fun to watch. They don't import reality TV ever. The only international formats they adopt are things like Deal or no Deal.
My mother has actually told me that British television is the best in the world.
And she's the more sensible parent too. I suppose it's just what you like.

In British culture we have this thing about nastiness. Granted,the Japanese do like pain but if the X Factor were a Japanese format,it'd just be solid,no-nonsense,straight to the good stuff. There are good British programmes,like Doctor Who[although I've only really liked the pirate one this year],but we have a bit of that Australian thing. Not as bad. We think that America does TV better. We just barely make enough to make a cultural difference.

well. uk has ultimate car show - top gear :)
i love it. specially the specials. since then most of the fun stuff that happens in genuine and not scripted. also the news segment rocks.
however uk also has one of the worst shows ever - Brainiac. so annoying (specially that other presenter, not Hammond) and stupid... :)

I don't know about all television, but we certainly have some of the best comedy and comedians. I love all the old shows like Blackadder, Red Dwarf, Fawlty Towers etc., but in modern day quality comedy seems to lacking somewhat, but shows like QI are rather amusing.

I think there's good and bad about the television in most nations, for example I adore the dramas in the US. Indian television has some great musicals and romances, too.

I really don't have much good to say about Japanese television, though . . . the NHK seems to broadcast some good shows, but the only other shows I get to see (being that I'm not inside Japan) are anime or mindless gameshows. Ninja Warrior and Takeshi's Castle seem like the most mind-numbing, braindead kind of shows I've ever seen, so repetitive and pointless. I do adore a fair few Japanese movies, but the only television of theirs that's aired here is truly cringe-worthy.

There has to be absolutely nothing on before I'll watch Top Gear. Richard Hammond does get on my nerves. On QI,Stephen Fry claimed to not like Big Brother,which is just to appease the public. He's not gonna say he likes it whether he likes it or not. Just not gonna happen.

The Sarah Jane Adventures on the other hand,now that was a quality British programme. And now we can't even have that! That K-9 show is a poor imitation. Now the United States is capable of making good programmes,but the good programmes are things like the original Wipeout,American Idol is a bit more fun to watch than the X Factor and I must admit these shows are actually watchable without Simon Cowell,Power Rangers,I used to love Max Steel when I was a kid,I liked Heroes until it went bad,Farscape was a half-American programme. I like Jon Stewart I think his name was. He's funny.

I just never understood as a kid,why did everyone like Friends? Frasier,I like Frasier. I used to like Everybody Loves Raymond. Generally though,I am not a sitcom person. My Hero was the only funny thing on television in it's day and everyone on the internet hated it! I remember watching these comedy awards,and ONLY FOOLS AND HORSES won. What?! That was like the worst one! The Vicar of Dibley was there! It's about London,that's why it got it. Another show I used to find funny was Atlantis High,it was an Australian thing.

Of course I admit I could have been nicer in how I worded it. Sorry. Perhaps I should clarify, I do not watch Japanese TV anymore but someone I live with does, and I have to put up with it in the background, thus TV annoys me sometimes, but I am willing to deal with it because that is life and because it is the real world. On the internet and an anonymous forum, however, I sometimes feel like I can be a little more blunt, it is a nice place to vent. I know there are limits, and I do remember that I am talking to people, so believe it or not I try to hold back and "stay nice" on a lot of things.

In any case, I feel it is a little extreme to get worked up and take personally somebody's opinion about something as trivial as television.

The second poster called american TV rubbish.. did I feel like I needed to jump down his throat about it? No, it is his opinion and he is welcome to it. Bottom line it's just TV, no need to take someone else's opinion about it like it's a personal attack.

That is a great I idea. Honestly I could care less what a person like you thinks about me. And I know this is just your way of doing a silly power play.
