It depends.If he is talking about commercial success,it is possible,since both Slipknot and metallica are already too mainstream.But if he is talking about quality,so they are already bigger than metallica,everyone is bigger than metallica,because metallica are sold outs and don't release anything good since the black album.

I think they are talking about Mettallica at there best, since they are talking about the Black album and I doubt that they can ever come out with something as good as that.
