I think you're talking about hard rock? Or metal? Because alternative rock is quite pleasing.

Is it just me or J-Rockers care a bit too much of their looks? Compared to Western Rockers.

Arikado 12-31-2008 12:05 PM

Old J-rock looks and sounds amazing. Hard to say for most new J-rock though.

SaChiKo09 01-02-2009 07:03 AM

i feel like western rock is dyin a bit not in popularity but the message (like ppl give a crap about msg, right?) but i like old western rock..

I dont really think this is the most fair place to ask this questions because obviously the answer is going to be mostly for jrock. But most of these people are really being honest with themselves, they are most likely just following blingly becasuse they worship all that is Japanese. Dont get me wrong i love tons about japan and even love the music. so im not saying jrock is horrible, or that in fact many people hate western rock and like jrock more. Im just saying that here, in this forum anything and everything Japanese is worshiped. And i will say that i cant really stand most of the visual kei stuff, some is pretty good but most only marginally ok. Gazette is good. not a huge Gackt fan either.

It's clearly stated this poll is for JapanForum and JF members and about THEIR opinion. When you make a survey and see the results you always check the enviroment the survey was taken at.

I was surprised Rock was winning at the start, my eyeballs were coming out like 'wtf, they like japan and not japanese music"... but later I found out the forum is how it should be.

Rock still has a big percentage here and it tells that JF members aren't totally obsessed only with Japan music but with something else... that tells how people here aren't actually with Japan Fever, they only like Japan because they found something interesting about it.

Cafekko102 10-14-2009 05:31 PM

J-ROCK!
Though, I do love Western rock.

junaid109 10-14-2009 08:44 PM

Western rock is and always will be better lol. You just have to be able to dig and find what tickles your fancy.
At the drive-in does that for me <3333.

Jrock is carbon copy of 80s glam rock and punk, not only with they way they look, but down to the sound.
Western "Rock" is garbage.
it's both Garbage 8) but at least Western Rock is it's own garbage, not copying garbage from another country. get my drift?
Industrial FTW!

NanteNa 12-12-2009 03:53 PM

I don't really listen to Western rock. It's all the same to me, really. I like western R'n'b and hiphop tho. :'3 But not the rock.

ozkai 12-12-2009 04:28 PM

I liked limited Western Rock in my teens, now, I prefer more relaxing music, although I would prefer Japanese Rock over the heavier and super loud screaming Western Type.

Versaille 01-13-2010 06:12 PM

JRock :mtongue:( there is 7-8 western rock bands that i like but thats all)...Jrock...<3

Exactly. I find that I am more into music instead of genre and I listen to music about 5 hours a day while I am at work. Since I dont see the videos its all about the music for me. I listen to both Jrock and Wrock quite a bit. Right now I am really into the Black Keys so I'm gonna say Wrock. A month from now it might be Jrock again.

MeIsKevin 08-05-2010 06:31 PM

I cannot really decide, both are awsome. T_T

Western doesn't reffer to one country, but I'm pretty sure glam and punk rock were developed in the UK before it hit America. And the visual style and music drew from many different things. It didn't just show up out of no where, uninfluenced by nothing.

JRock was influenced by the movement. All music is influenced by something, so if you label JRock as copying, then you have to label all music as copying.

Not defending JRock or anything, I'm pretty neutral on the subject >>

(I like your icon btw. Dero is my guilty pleasure)

If I have to choose, then it will always be Japanese Rock for me. I guess I like Western Rock also, but I almost never listen to it.

This place is just as fair as a Western forum. If you ask this same question on a Western forum, then where do you think most votes go?

tokusatsufan 08-26-2011 07:07 PM

I can't say because Bon Jovi is western rock. I don't really like races or genders being pitted against each other.

SCIFFIX 08-26-2011 11:00 PM

Various western bands influenced members of J-rock bands so I can't say JRock is better than western.I can't disregard rock bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Van Halen, AC/DC and other influent bands. We can't compare Jrock and the western rock but we know western is the major influence talking about rock, mainly talking about guitar.
You can notice the influences of Yngwie Malmsteen and Paul Gilbert in Versailles guitar solos, same of how Jimmy Page influenced Pata(X Japan) style of play guitar.

xnamelessx 09-11-2011 11:24 AM

Even though I still dont understand much Japanese, I still love J-Rock. It's just different, and fun, and funky. LOL!

xnamelessx 09-11-2011 11:25 AM

I don't know what it is.

I prefer J-Rock. Nearly everyband I like in J-Rock. Western Rock is also nice, but there are many bands, I don`t really like.
But really, I like both, Western and Asian Rockbands.
