Drifting

So who here likes the Japanese motor sport of Drifting? And does anybody here drift them self?

CoolNard 03-05-2007 05:51 AM

Wow, yeah i love drifting but sadly, i've never done it.. maybe in video games.. haha.. maybe you could help with examples and pictorial illustrations..? ^^ Of course, I'd be happy to help with the research if need be. :vsign:

straightedge240sx 03-05-2007 07:56 AM

Well here is some stuff on drifting I hope this helps.

CoolNard 03-05-2007 08:15 AM

Ahh.., thanks for the effort straightedge240sx, that's much needed inforimation ^^

AnimeFan15 09-03-2007 11:51 PM

I've loved drifting ever since I saw initial D.When I get a car im going to try it.:)

Hyakushi 09-04-2007 09:34 PM

Drifting! I love Drifting me and my friends always race against each other and drifting is alot of fun. I've been drifting for only 3 years, thinking about entering a competiton, Drifting is all I do when I have nothing else to do :D

pandayanyan 09-04-2007 10:19 PM

I love drifting too. I can't do it in my current car cause it is basically a motor couch (big huge whale of a car) but when I get my new one I will definately pick it up again.

ff12guy 09-04-2007 10:29 PM

i like to watch drifting but when im playing around with friends ill thro the car in to a controld slid an sompt the gas an it will squell out the other side the corner its fun but u go thro to many tires
:D

typesblur 10-11-2007 06:16 AM

used to until i sold my Z and got a fwd. now im just sitting around waiting to get my parts in to finish my rb26TT build for a 1975 240Z.....then i will unleash the dragon and tear up the backroads along with some good old fashion drag racing at the track.

typesblur 10-11-2007 07:43 PM

stick shift FTW auto's are so boring.....my left foot gets bored and starts dancing around if im driving an auto. everyone in D1 and everyone in all other drift circuits use sticks.

Hyakushi 10-11-2007 09:48 PM

I prefer to use a stick shift its more challanging than just sitting there and pulling the hand break in an automatic car. Automatics are for lazy people . . . and old people.

Oni 10-12-2007 03:13 AM

I loooooove to drift! One of my best friends drifts and he lets me ride with him when he goes around the track (Can't drive yet....)

typesblur 10-12-2007 03:37 AM

haha if im going to drive stupid i take the responsiblity in my own hands and only drive by myself. i dont feel like going to a friends parents house saying "im sorry i killed your son/daughter"

Hyakushi 10-12-2007 03:48 AM

Hahahaha I feel the same way I don't race with anyone else in the car just me so if I get into a reck then I'm the only one that dies :D

ivi0nk3y 10-13-2007 06:51 AM

I've actually drifted in two cars, both rear wheel drive. A BMW 320 Turbo Diesel and a souped up Mitsubishi FTO.
The thrill is kinda indescribable when you first do it but as with all things, you start getting used to it. Weaving in and out of traffic still gives me a rush though :D

micxnet 11-23-2007 01:57 PM

Where would one go to see a Drift competition? Is there a professional league (with set races)?

noodle 11-23-2007 02:05 PM

haha, the only thing i know about drifting is from games and the film Tokyo Drift lol

Tingle 11-24-2007 07:38 PM

Tried it a few times. Andrenaline inducing mayhem. Pain on the tyres though. But to drift like dk in tokyo drift, that would be a dream come true.

Cyclamen 11-24-2007 11:36 PM

I love drifting, but it's very dangerous (except at high speeds and on mountain paths), if the police catches you you got your license burned instantly, it puts a lot of stress on your tires (and we all know they're damn expensive) and on your car in general... I used to drift quite a lot in the past when I was a young and reckless car lover, now I do it sometimes. I'd like to get a car only for circuit racing and drift there somewhere in the future.

About drift cars. Automatic shifts are simply shit (with an automatic you can't put in a low gear before entering a corner and then add gas causing your car to slide), and rear wheel drive cars are the best for drifting (you can drift with a 4wd, but only at high speeds and have to control the car in a completely different way).

Jo_Kittie 11-25-2007 02:24 PM

After seeing Tokyo Drift (the fast and the furious) I got kind interested. :3
I need to learn doing that stuff when I get my driving license. XD

Kenpachi11 11-25-2007 06:48 PM

I love drifting but never did it only on video games. But the bad part about drifting is when you drift it shreds your tires...

Housetek 11-26-2007 09:56 AM

we use to beat up and shift in my friends 240sx and my other buddies Bimmer

since they are the only 2 of the group who have rwd cars

i cant really drift now cuz i drive a old mercedes and sold my SER Spec V

hopin to pick up a wrx and start playing around again.

theholty 12-02-2007 06:43 PM

:ywave: Wow, Im new to this site, but have been into drifting for about 5/6 years or so now, and I'm suprised how many ill-informed people there are on here!

Automatics better for drifting, whaaat??

All you need to drift is a rwd car and a nice, open space to practice in, preferably at a track :vsign:

The easiest and best way to learn is in a RWD car with the basics:

1. Bucket seat
2. LSD
3. Upgraded striffer/lower suspension

If you're seriously interested in the sport, try these places for all the info you'll need:

Drifting (motorsport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
www.ziptied.com
DRIFTING, DRIFTING.com

and if you're in europe, Drifting forum - Driftworks

also, get some option and drift tengoku DVDs, or get a hold of a copy of the 'drift bible' - an informative DVD made by Keiichi Tsuchiya (the drift king) that describes all the basics.

and people, before you go on the internet claiming to be the next drift king, do a little research, more than just watching Tokyo Drift and Initial D so it looks like you know what you're talking about

ivi0nk3y, be honest, you've never 'drifted' have you? If you had, you'd probably know that FTO's are FWD, NOT RWD lol ;)

I'm not wanting to come accross like a troll or an ass, just want to prevent the spread of drifting mis-information that seems to be happening on this site :vsign:

Thanks!

typesblur 12-02-2007 07:21 PM

yay i dont feel like a loner anymore!!! good to know theres at least 1 other member on the site that has car knowledge! oh but one little correction. i found it easier to just to practice on my own and not watch the videos. when i watched "drift bible" it realy made me over think all the manuvers  but i guess in the long run its kind of payed off.

Yeah I know what you mean, its kinda easier to 'learn as you drive' but I think the drift bible is a good intro to the basics for people who havent tried drifting or dont know the basics :)

Heather 01-16-2008 02:18 AM

drifting is a gift that not everyone has. i love it, and im in the learning process of it right now. i have always wanted to meet one of the guys from team falken. anyway, im surprised that this thread isnt talked about that much, because i hear that a lot of japenese people love drifting. if anyone here is willing to teach me how to drift, just pm me.

typesblur 01-18-2008 07:40 PM

>_< team falkin is ok at best. its all about team orange and team blitz :mtongue:

Pjok 01-19-2008 10:02 PM

Man i would love to try and drift.. Or just sit in a car while drifting. Could be so cool. Here in denmark you don't get a drivers license untill you're 18.. :/

Akoni 01-20-2008 08:41 AM

Would you buy a car that was modded to drift for around 5-6k if it was super common in the drift world? o: (Nissan S13/S14 (Silvia (JDM) 240SX (USDM ect.)

MarkDuff 01-20-2008 08:48 AM

I would do it in a lotus man. if your going to do why not in style just don't wreck. It would suck to have to repair a 35,000 dallor car.

Akoni 01-20-2008 11:39 AM

I dont think anyone should start in a 35k car haha

typesblur 01-26-2008 08:41 PM

personaly no i wouldnt buy a silvia. the main reason is that its the new honda civic for the drift world. i like to stick to the cars that get the people to say "whoa whats that car dominating the track!"

value1984 02-15-2008 08:28 PM

lol--- I found only in this moment this topic... :D Drifting is great, but not for everyone! Unfortunately I owm a Mini (the old one), and with a Fwd is impossible to drift, but I was lucky to watch some contests and races. here in Italy there is a championship on tracks, and it's not possible to drift on normal streets... Is it in Japan the same?

Have you ever seen a Rc-drift car??? I race with it, and it's fantastic...I own a 1/10 Nissan Sivia!

forgotenmemory 02-16-2008 04:36 AM

WHat is drifting? >.<
