In a straight out fight, Sephiroth would win. But, as we've seen in Advent Children, Sephiroth seems to like knocking Cloud down then sprouting lines about what's most important to him, giving Cloud enough time to regain composure and own the living hell out of Sephiroth. If Sephiroth was more brutal than "playful" he'd destroy Cloud.

*The AC Sephiroth isn't the original. It's one of Hojo's experiments that has merged with Jenova's neck thanks to the Reunion. It's a perfect replica, but it's not him. Sephiroth was officially destroyed at the end of FFVII.

Sephiroth in AC knew who Cloud was. Kadaj, Loz, and Yazoo all seem to manifestations of Sephiroth's will. Sephiroth died in FFVII but was powerful enough to not be fully dissolved within it. Further proof of this is the fact that he planned Geostigma. It's his infection, to serve his purpose. Everything Kadaj does, is exactly what Sephiroth wanted. Notice that Loz and Yazoo begin to become part of the lifestream as soon as Kadaj dies. That's because they are connected as avatars of Sephiroth.

Considering how many times Sephiroth has owned Cloud out of sheer strength and skill, I would have to side with him.

Ever since I've played Kingdom Hearts, I've been getting interested in FFVII. And from what I can tell, Sephiroth always loses simply due to his ego. If that was aside, he could definately beat Cloud.
