Hey everyone.
Long time no see.

***Important announcement for this thread***
I'm afraid I have bad news. This is my last paint-over video for a while.
In fact, I don't think I'll be doing any paint-overs at all for a long time.
I'm really just too busy now. So... I hope you all can still keep this thread alive and comment on each others art! I'm counting on you!
I hope some of you have learned a few useful tips. I know I've seen lots of improvement.
Keep practicing everyone!! :)

VampireGirl:

put a little more work into the video since it's my last one lol.
Kinda got carried away... :P

Well, I'll be sure to come to this thread every now and then to check up on everyone. I just won't be making any critiques.

Big apologies to: Tsuzuki, JustinATTACK, and KAIZEN. I just had to make the last video for VG who was the first one to post. Sorry everyone.

Peace :vsign:

Ahh It's to bad you won't be doing any more videos. I liked them.

Klint 09-23-2009 10:07 PM

A 360 view of a hover tank I'm working on in 3ds max.

YouTube - Modded BZ2 Tank

By the way, is there a post count someone has to achieve before they can embed videos or use an image in their signature space? Or am I just doing it wrong?

This is pretty cool. I like it.

Thank you! :)

I also started working on my first human head in 3d not too long ago. All that's left to do is fix a couple of problems with the anatomy, remove any tris and Ngons hidden in the wireframe, unwrap the thing, and render it. :vsign:

He was asleep in that position? Wow.

You're most welcome.

And the 3D head is looking pretty good.

Also due to my extreme lack of the ability to draw any form of extremity I left the hands, feet and face areas blank.

Since no one ever said anything about this I'm posting it again.
I need some advice on how to make it better.

Sharpen your pencil. lol
Umbrella is too small.
The shape of your hair clumps are strange.

Check this out: LINK Not the greatest tutorial ever. But this person knows how anime hair works. Study that.

Practice your clothing more.

Sorry I don't have any better advice on that... The only way to improve cloth is to practice.

There are hardly any shadows where they should be. Think more about which parts would be in the shade and which would be in the light.

LINK (Not really a shading tutorial. But can you see how carefully this artist thought about the lighting?)

sorry I can't do a paint-over Justin. This is the best I can give you. Hope it helps.

And the other one.

GTJ 09-25-2009 12:31 AM

@Tsuruneru: Copying is all well and good. But scanners and copy machines can do it better than a human ever can. If you want to work on being an artist or creating your own works, you need to kick your creative muscle into gear and make things for yourself. If you want to draw popular characters, maybe fanart is a good start; stay away from the poses and whatnot that have already been done and are widely distributed, and create your own poses/scenes/costumes for characters. Give it a shot.

@JustinATTACK: Life drawing. Do it. Go forth and learn.

Thanks! Your advice is greatly appreciated!
This is the first time I've ever drawn clothing of any kind,
I usually draw abstracts.

It's okay I don't need one. It helps tons!

...? Eh yeah dude they were just two drawings nothing to be serous or make an entire paragraph about. It's not a problem to draw favorite characters from anime and games in my spare time is it?

Here's a dart/dartboard I modeled off of the one in my room. To challenge myself I didn't take any reference pictures or anything, I just looked at them both a lot while I was working on it. ;)

Two renderings of the board: [LINK] and [LINK].

Not related, but here's a photomanipulation I did when I was bored, as well as a model I based off of one of the grenades from Battlefield: Bad Company: [LINK] and [LINK]. :)

Thank you :D

I'd like to get into either one of those, though it's surprisingly difficult to find a school that has either game design or 3d computer animation near me. :-/

I hear that speaking Japanese is a big plus in the gaming industry though, so if I can manage to learn enough of it by the end of college, assuming I can't get into a game design class, I might be able to get a job with a developer using any combined knowledge of Japanese and game design I've learned independently.

I made a fairy to paint in my new bedroom soon.^^

I agree with GTJ, This is so good! ^_^

Klint 10-18-2009 05:05 AM

Thank you! :D

Sorry it took so long to reply. My parents went on vacation so I've been staying at my uncles until recently and I was sick the whole time. I even fell asleep for 20 hours at one point. :o

Well, here's something else I'm working on: [LINK]

Ichigo's sould slayer from Bleach :D
I'm happy with the blade edge for now, but I'm still trying to figure out how to make the flat black part and the handle with the cloth on it look more realistic. I also need to add the seperate piece of cloth trailing off the end on the sword.
