is anime dying in america? - 11-02-2008, 05:27 PM

one of my weekly routines was dashed saturday when i went to go shopping at one of my anime stores "anime nuts" and it was closed.i mean really closed,out of bizz...then i stopped to think about it,they're shops looking run-down and closing.how about your area?

It might have something to do with the whole US economy not being in the greatest shape ever thing. Import costs rise, cost of upkeep rises. The store doesn't sound like it was a big chain or anything either. It just couldn't keep up.

Yeah it's still going strong where I live. It's probably jus a bad area for the store, thats all. It happens to a lot of comic stores too

I don't think so, maybe the ratings have not been as high as before, but you can thank the internet for that.

Well we'd never get a manga store, a teeny comic store opened here but it really didn't last long at all.

i think it's either because of the economy, people are buying merch online or lack of interest. like, i never buy from anime or manga stores because i'm not that crazyobsessed with it.

It's hard maintaining any business that is so narrow in scope, to just anime, especially when so many people watch anime on the Internet. It is too bad.
