Japanese Candy - 11-10-2009, 07:35 PM

I was wondering what this candy is called. I found out the name a long time ago but then forgot. It's pictured in Spirited Away. The sootballs eat it.

And also, I was wondering what everyone's favorite Japanese candies are? ^^ I love pocky (if that is considered candy) and the cabonated hard candies.

Oh, well welcome! ^^ Hope you enjoy it here. You can find pocky or yanyan or Botan candy in the Asian food aisle at most food market stores like Walmart and Target.

I don't know about Walmart, but Target doesn't have an Asian foods aisle. I know Cub does though.

but I didn't see candy there recently.

Oh, I thought there was. Maybe only in Super Targets? Because I'm pretty sure mine does.

I believe you are talking about Kompeito.

Kompeito ~ Five Color Traditional Japanese Candy

My personal favorites are the Kasugai Gummy's and Hi-Chew.

I love Hello Panda if that classes as candy.

Kompeito's weird, though, it's just hard sugar with no flavor. Struck me as like eating cake decorations without any of the cake. :[

My favourite is mitarashi dango. Especially when they're still warm!

Ahh yes that's it! And that's where I had heard about them too. Thank you very much. ^^

Haha yeah I suppose. But they are Japanese so that's what makes them special. Not to mention how cute they are in Spirited Away.

Mitarashi dango looks really yummy from the pictures I saw!
