What do you think of my Novel's title? (Vanilla117) - 11-24-2010, 09:59 PM

Hello guys! So I'm finally publishing my first novel. I decided to call it Vanilla117! Of course there is a reason why I chose this title.

Now I want to know two things. 1. Do you think it is a good title? (do you like it?)

2. What was the first thing that came to your mind when you knew that Vanilla117 is a title of a novel? What would you think of a novel that has this title?

This is not the cover ;] Just sharing this pic.

Thank you

I think it's different; noun+number is often a good combination. I'd maybe pick up the book to check out the blurb, but it might also depend on the cover art, and which section it's sat in. I don't love it. It doesn't make me go 'ooh, what's that about', but that's mostly because-

'Vanilla' as a word in general applied to anything other than ice-cream or orchid pods screams several things at me; fluffy chick-lit, Trying Too Hard to Be Ironic and soft-core pornography. Generally not what I, personally, am looking for in a novel. I'd expect a mushy romance story. teen romance probably. or yeah, consensus from this end is 'sounds like porn' actually, with the 17 tag on it, sounds like 'barely-legal porn'. Or a 1980's puffed up glam rocker. It kind of sounds cheap, if you get my drift. Anything with 'vanilla' on the cover in my experience is usually paperback, gritty with the ghosts of old holidays, and winds up in a charity shop.

Essentially my views as well. Softcore porn and all...and people would be wondering where the other 116 whatevers are.

Fortunately, there is one woman in this world who can control me.

Unfortunately for you, she is not here.

^ haha, all right. Not many people loved the title anyway ^-^

It is the email address of the protagonist. And yeah it is kinda a teen fantasy novel, but it has some serious issues that are not suitable for teenagers.

I wonder what the others would say.

just a point if you're really gunning to publish; if the protagonists are teenagers, for a fantasy novel, then your target audience should also be teens, or at least age to an appropriate range over the course of the book.

You are right But no, the protagonist is in her 20's. The only thing that makes the novel sound like its for teenagers is the thing that the girl works hard to do in the novel. This is the only thing that sounds 'unrealistic' in the novel. All other things are real and serious.

Just sharing.

The plot of the novel is based on my dream to be free. I am dreaming of such an 'unrealistic' thing to take place in my life. I'm looking for excitement.

I was raised in a very conservative society. I have a very boring life. I go outdoors twice or thrice a month. I am not allowed to have a drivers' license. Etc. What happens with the protagonist is what I wish to happen with me. Some people think my novel is strange, but I feel that this is how I wanted it to be in some way, childish and unrealistic, but serious and real at the same time.

Thank you guys.
