It may sound stereotypical, but many Japanese are extremely uptight about love and romance. As a teacher, I have a pretty close relationship with my students, and as I'm a foreigner, they seem to be able to tell me things that they won't tell each other. I know who likes who in my class, it's amazing how much romantic intrigue is going on. What's more amazing is how difficult it is for them to express their feelings to each other. Most never do.

I have a bag sitting next to my desk here in my apartment, and in the bag are several boxes of chocolates which many of the girls in my class have given me. It's a good thing that I like chocolate. I made a list of the girl's names so I can return the favor next month. I had my gf order me a large box of 白い恋人 cookies, hopefully I'll have a few packages left over after White Day, they are very tasty.
