In Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese tradition, white is the color of mourning and death.

And you were doing so well up until that point.

For a second there, when I saw you quoting my post, I was hoping for something interesting to read. *sigh* Oh the disappointment.
And, please, excuse me for posting only one of the sources. Of course, I can post more, but I don't think that will change much.

It's a thread about Valentine's Day, guys. There really is nothing to fight about.

"Someone made a joke on the Internet."

"End him."

Thinking on it, I never thought of it until MMM brought it up: women really do put more on the line on V-Day in Japan than the men do. That's pretty hardcore. Men gotta' step it up a little.

No. You pretty much got it right. Nothing to correct. You can live another day. :)

No offense, but that sounds kind of pathetic to me that you need a certain day as an excuse for confessing your love.

It may sound stereotypical, but many Japanese are extremely uptight about love and romance. As a teacher, I have a pretty close relationship with my students, and as I'm a foreigner, they seem to be able to tell me things that they won't tell each other. I know who likes who in my class, it's amazing how much romantic intrigue is going on. What's more amazing is how difficult it is for them to express their feelings to each other. Most never do.

I have a bag sitting next to my desk here in my apartment, and in the bag are several boxes of chocolates which many of the girls in my class have given me. It's a good thing that I like chocolate. I made a list of the girl's names so I can return the favor next month. I had my gf order me a large box of 白い恋人 cookies, hopefully I'll have a few packages left over after White Day, they are very tasty.
