Ninja Vs Samurai

A Ninja (忍者 ,ninja?) is a warrior specially trained in a variety of unorthodox arts of war. These include assassination, illusion, espionage, and various martial arts. The role of the ninja may have included sabotage, espionage, scouting and assassination as a method of destabilization or to cause social chaos. Such actions may have taken place at the service of a feudal lord (daimyo, shogun), or other entity waging guerrilla warfare.

A Samurai who is more respected as a warrior but deal more with intellectual issues.
Most samurai were bound by a code of honor and were expected to set an example for those below them. A notable part of their code is seppuku (切腹 ,seppuku?), which allowed a disgraced samurai to regain his honor by passing into death, where samurai were still beholden to social rules.

Which do you prefer?

But samurai was more respectful and they were more like the protectors of the nation.

Sutiiven 04-27-2009 09:56 PM

I read this book by James Clavell (Shogun): It deals with a Feudal war in the 1600 and the part that thrilled me most was when ninjas were sent to assassinate a samurai. It was crazy.

desicat674 04-27-2009 10:02 PM

And also caused heavy wars when every power hungry samurai wanted to become Shogun.

DSX 04-27-2009 10:04 PM

Ninjas. They were trained to deal with armored enemies, so they have the edge in tactics.

What I can't believe was that Deadliest Warrior actually said that a ninja would be killed by a Spartan...That's impossible...

I think samurais are more trained to withstand armored warriors than Ninjas but I agree that they have a edge in tactics.

It's true that samurais were better trained to endure battle, but ninjas were trained to use the unexpected.

If a ninja was spotted by a samurai, they could go for a quick draw stance, then throw dust in his eyes when he charges. Before the samurai knows it, his head would have probably been chopped off.

good analysis, but Samurais arent knock-offs too. They have been trained to use ears for "part visualization", thats is why they are faster in battle.

SephirothVVC 04-27-2009 10:29 PM

a tough choice, but ill go with Shinobi since they still kinda exist.....

SaintKat 04-27-2009 10:32 PM

I prefer the samurai code, but favour the ninja's chances more. After all the latter is known for fighting dirty.

rison 04-27-2009 10:35 PM

True SaintKat and somehow, I find that very cool.

Sutiiven 04-27-2009 10:35 PM

samurai may have used ears but ninja were trained to be silent and deadly and able to adapt to any measure needed taken :vsign:

rison 04-27-2009 10:49 PM

^^^
Okay But why do Ninjas fight more in groups and Samurais are rarely seen in groups?
Dont they appear stronger?

Sutiiven 04-27-2009 10:54 PM

well i think it would be based on skills

nobora 04-28-2009 01:01 AM

hard to choose ninjas are quick, and undetected.
samurai are honarable, and merciless

Ronin4hire 04-28-2009 03:41 AM

Wow... it's amazing how pop culture has distorted history.

Ninja were NOTHING like Naruto.

They were spies, assassins etc.
Samurai were soldiers, warriors.

If we were to make a modern day comparison, a ninja would be compared to a CIA operative while a Samurai would be a Marine.

Pexster 04-28-2009 04:04 AM

Ooooh....-_- I pick......*leaves thread*

ozkai 04-28-2009 04:17 AM

It is like comparing a horse with a motorbike; you can do it, but you're a retard if you do.

Why don't they cut it?

I think they are accurate comparisons with concern to the roles of ninja and Samurai.

Samurai didn't have morals.... that's bullshit.

Samurai followed what their lord told them to do. THAT was what they considered morals. Unquestioning loyalty.

If their lord said burn down a village they would burn it down and kill all the civilians.

Also SWAT's role is limited.. I don't think they're SWAT.

The movie Munich starring Eric Bana about the Israeli spies. These guys I would consider a good comparison. CIA, KGB, MI6 etc.

killing yourself instead of being defeated isnt a moral?

No.... At least not by todays standards it isn't.

Of course Samurai would've held morals which required them to do such a thing.

'Ninja' Sly. 'Samurai' honorable.

Samurai's get praised in public. Ninja's stay hidden because of their identity.

kMal 04-28-2009 07:46 AM

Definitely Samurai. We Turks are proud people and Ninja's just seem very sneaky.

XDemianu27X 04-28-2009 11:12 AM

Which do I prefer? Prefer for what?

Which do I think is cooler? Samurai

Which would I want to be? Ninja; the life style of a Samurai isn't for me. At least if I was a Ninja, I could still have my own life on the side. If I was a Samurai I wouldn't have a life other than being a Samurai.

Which do I think would win in a fight? Samurai; they're trained for fighting while ninja's are trained to assassinate.

**edit- I spelled assassinate wrong, I'm dumb.***

Sutiiven 04-28-2009 11:37 AM

Ninja's all the way so much gotta love being sneaky and the history :vsign:
