My mother basically ignores it, but she hates it when I listen to visual kei on youtube, she hates all the styles and make-up. xD

My dad likes some of it, though he's frustrated he can't sing it.

I listen to Visual Kei rock, and then I listen to J-Pop. Mostly NewS, Kanjani 8, and An Cafe. :]

I love it, and it cheers me up whenever I feel down:pandasmile:

my mom liked jrock straight from the beginning. she likes Hyde, Gackt, Dir en Grey, Miyavi, Unsraw, Abingdon Boys School, UVERworld, and 12012 the most. ^^ She likes almost every band I show her. But she has always been open-minded and had good musical taste.

My lil sis will try any artist once. So to get her to say she likes a group, you have to show her a group's best song. XD

My big sis sucks. she won't try the stuff and makes fun of me for listening to it. grrr....

And that is how my family reacts to jrock. Hope you enjoyed it.

Dir en grey and tool don't sound very alike but eh.

People just don't understand foreign music, they stick to stereotypes and don't realize almost every country has a variety of genres just the same as america.

On a personal note.
I dislike J-rock. With a few exceptions of course but for the most part it's not my cup of tea.
I tend to favor Norwegian music.
People harass me for that to. Little do they realize most American rock including supposed " legends" got alot of their songs/sounds from Norway's metal scenes.

Thing is you can't limit yourself to one genre of music, or think your preference genre is the best.
There are so many styles, lyrics and languages to hear, the music world is absolutely amazing.
I'll listen to anything once.

wow i have this problem with my friends too.

"dude they wear makeup and they have long hair and they look like girls, they're gay as hell"

"they look like marilyn manson when he's high"

"haah you listen to emo japanese heavy metal played by musicians who dress up and look like girls"

"jrock sucks stop being such a fob"

but oh well. i'd rather this than if everyone at my school liked jrock. i like to be unique. :) and they've accepted the fact that i don't care what they think. heh.

I didn't read everyone's post but I just want to add my 2 cents.

I know a few people who are crazy about jrock. I have never spend a lot of time listening to them but I have heard and seen some videos. If people are going to judge the music, just judge the music. Everyone's entitle to their own opinion. But there's no need to rumble on about anything else that have any relation to Japan. For example Pearl Harbor and other things.

That's not racism, lol.

A lot of people listen to music for the lyrics. Therefore, a lot of people are going to think a song, or genre of music is stupid because you cannot understand the lyrics.

Not that it's right for people to make fun of you for the music you listen to (friends can tease, but that's something different), but if it bothers you that much you can do one of two things: stop listening to it to avoid the taunt, or turn up the volume and ignore them.

I'd suggest the latter, but whatever works for you I guess.

My family don't even know I listen to Japanese music. I dont think they know about my interest in Japan at all. I dont plan on telling them either.

My dad was the worst. But he didn't just get on about the music he was going full on about Pearl harbor and stuff like that.

Finally, yesterday i forced him to listen to my Dir en grey CD on my way home.
And guess what?

He fucking liked it o_o
People need to stop being racist about Japanese music.
And stop underestimating Jrock.
It is good, you just have to give it a chance.

But, he said they sounded like Tool. Who is Tool? D8

They really shouldnt be racist about any J music cause that is mean
