I hate when people do that. My friends hated it..now they like it. Seriously dont judge before you listen.

I am totally with you guys. My dad makes jokes about Gackt all the time and he's never really heard him before. Just to pick on me, he goes around the house and starts yelling out stuff that's not really Japanese words and sounds really awful, and then he "impersonates" him impersonating Elvis, which means he acts like him singing horribly in English with a bad accent that is not at all Japanese. It's so stupid I can't help but laugh. However, about a week ago, he heard a short part of Vanilla by Gackt and kind of liked the sound of it.

Ah, my family does this all the time, ugh. I put something Jrock on, and everyone in my family just moans and asks if it is "That Japanese stuff again" even if it's something I've never even heard before. -_-

It doesn't matter who it is; Kanon Wakeshima to GazettE to Nami Tamaki to Malice Meizer. They just hear the Japanese and block out the music. Although, that might not be being fair to my mom, she does like GazettE's heavier songs. Whenever I put on Alice Nine or something, she just says "Put on GazettE, I like them. Put on one of the songs with a heavy bass line!" Hah.

I got my mom (who has no interest in Japan whatsoever) to listen to a few songs by Yui. She told me she really enjoyed them ^_^

As for me, my room was raided when I was in the Army. The police confiscated my J-pop music collection. No joke.

Couldn't agree more! I think some music bocomes even more beautiful when you can:rheart: t unsersand it, that way you have a chance to listen to it with your heart, not your ears, you know?

I'm not a fan of JRock, but I used to be really involved with my high school Japanese class... My dad was constantly making jokes about the Japanese, and stating things that he was POSITIVE were facts (like the Japanese eating cats and dogs...which is completely ridiculous), along with bringing up Pearl Harbor

After seeing me speak Japanese at a speech competition, where he saw that the language didn't consist of the words "ching chang chung"- and he witnessed Taiko drummers and other musicians perform, he suddenly quit making jokes...

Ahaha, I think parents subconciously LOVE making their kids extremely frustrated, when in reality they are living in the dark. :vsign:

YoshimiTheEthereal 02-06-2009 03:59 AM

LOL!!!!!! ROFL!!!!!!!! (to "ching chang chung") I am still dying of laughter! Oh!!!!!! Someone send help!!! LOL!!!!!!!! It hurts!!!!

Ah . . . okay, yeah, that was way good and true, burkhartdesu. That's what I was saying about my dad. When he "imitates" Gackt, he talks like that. And I agree, I think a lot of it is just to bug us. I don't think my dad, at least, is really a racist. Just a really big cut-up that loves to annoy people and has no idea what he is really mocking.

Most people I know don't really make fun of it, but they are just like, "but you can't understand what they're saying!" It's like a constant mantra. My mom quite likes some of my music, as long as it's not too "heavy". My dad likes it too, somewhat, and I've even got him to start recognizing Miyavi songs:)

My closest mates make racist remarks about the Japanese when I play my Japanese music out loud.

If they did actually sit down and listen to it instead of jumping into taking the mick, they might like it.

I listen to JRock, Visual Kei, JPop that kind of stuff. Its similar in terms of musically to what they listen to, so I don't see why they have to make stupid remarks about it.

Grr!
