Great thread. I do have to agree that hands can be murder, but does pay off if you work on it and not just have sausages for fingers.

Awesome murmux

As for any critique, I'd say the design of that creature's face seems a little generic. I would change that.

But damn. Be proud of your work! It's very good. :ywave:

EDIT: just noticed the fingers one the creature's left hand are a little out of proportion, compared to his other hand.

im really late in replying but thankyou so much for the help :rheart:
I have changed the hand and the face now and i think that it looks better ...i hope haha thankyouuuu

also im sorry im being greedy here but if you have time could you please help me with this picture i think it is all wrong i have the head positioning and scale wrong i think but once you have been looking at things for so long its hard to see whats right and wrong anymore ¬.¬ any help would be muchly appreciated :D

It's not too bad. though I think his lips are over too far to the right. or maybe it's that a bit too long.

and maybe the eyes are a bit too big... width-wise.

I'm not really sure about the nose.

yup yup, hands are tough. I tend to draw simple sausage hands a lot just cause I find them so hard. But I'm workin on it!
Glad to see you posting here ThuMpeR, I'm a big fan of your art over on DA. :)

main problem i see is that his nose looks flat, like it doesn't stick out off of his face, try drawing basic 3D shapes to get a hang of it. the nose is pretty cube like, so drawing cubes should help.

Made some very minor tweaks.
Eyes were a tiiiiny bit too far away from each other.
and the nose mouth and chin were rotated a bit on the wrong angle.
They should be perpendicular to the center line going down the face.
but like i said, very minor tweaks, very minor problems.
hope this helps.
BTW the color and lighting is fantastic
:)

Kitagawa, I really like your advice on hands, it is great help to a starter artist, as well as others like me, who have been doing art for years and years.

Nice drafts here.

RKitagawa 07-24-2009 08:06 PM

@Kanji
Thanks, and your welcome. Glad to be of service.

@Reet - Hey man, sorry I took so long to reply. But I thought I would try something a little different this time. Instead of simply showing the final paintover and talking about what I did (which is what I usually do). I thought it would be cool to record the whole process. Please let me know if you think this helps more than just an image, because I'm not sure if I will continue to do this.

Hope you can read the text, I know my witting is messy and it goes by really quick. Sorry! Also, I didn't really know what I was trying to say at a few points, haha. Hope you can still understand what I was getting at.

P.S. I put some music to it to make it more entertaining. But the youtube guys disabled it. sorry lol, had to swap it out for some crappy music from the site.

haha, cute. I like your style.
If you'd like, I can critique one for you. Just pick any picture that u want advice on.
You don't have to of course, but I can't really critique your whole gallery.
lol, I like it though. Keep up the good work :ywave:
