One of my close freinds told me she hated anime, but she was never mean to me about my hobby and now we just graduated from high school, our personalites are diffrent but we never got into any arguments. Anyway no one has made fun of me for liking anime. But someone on Crunchyroll, sent me a rude PM insluting me how I like yuri. I rember some of the reguler high school girls who like stuff like Hannah Montana and High School Musical, cheered for the anime club when they saw us in the homecoming parade for 2007, I wore my maid outfit and walked the whole way. The next year we finally got a float. So yeah if you are discrimated for liking anime, I am sorry and pray for the best. So keep liking anime andmanga, just ignore those people and do what you like.

I was never discrimanated against for liking anime and manga because nearly the whole school liked it. We once had a club dedicated to anime and manga, but my bitch of a principle shut it down because she said it didn't have anything to do with education. I HATED her for that. I think she did that because she didn't like anime and manga, but that's just my opinion. At least I was lucky to go to a school where 90% of the school likes it. For all the others up here who have that discrimination problem, never let anyone tease you or make you feel bad for liking or LOVING anime and manga. You have to remember that there are jerks in life that will attack you for being different. Just ignore it and continue to live your life the way you want to. Peace.

People tend to discriminate/not like other people that are different or have different hobbies. Just do what you like or are interested in, and don't mind other people (or kick his ass)

well in my school a majority of the students enjoy anime
however they r too proud to admit it (learned this at my schools club fair).
there is a minority of asians (like 3 or 4) in my school and they tend to steer clear of anime fans. especially me since im the president of the anime club.
and also when i tell most ppl that i like anime or if they happen to find out , they tend to think that anime is the only thing in the world i like and that i must know every episode of sailor moon.

My Life Sucks- The kids I babysit have drooled, ripped or drawn on all of the cards and put the cars with the little people in the microwave!

I have no Friends- The cats have scratched and destroyed all of the DVDs!

I always owe someone- In fact I put two os in it!

I always ruin my clothes with Bleach!- The show is so dom suspensful I spill my grape soda on them!

But . . .I'll live.

1.some people think animes are only for children (pokemon, sailor moon) or for hentai (porn, etc.)

So if you're in school, people might think of you as childish, stupid, not-grown-up-at-all.... XDDDDDDDDD°°!!!

2. Since it's "Drawn" it might seem unprofessional to some ppl, because they're rather used to dramas or hollywood movies (america)

Anime....doesn't really draw their attention.
Besides, "anime" is not THAT popular all over the world..
I mean....almost everyone knows "superman" for example.

The difference:

You all know, superman is immortal. Never mind what happens, he beats them up. You have to watch it once and u have a feeling of how the show is.......

Anime/manga...are so unpredictable at times, you cannot generalize it ...
ok, you can split it in "horror" , "action", "history" whatever !

...But most people who aren't into it just generalize it by saying it'S
"childish" or even worse: "pure porn"

X_________________X

gruuuuahhh....

--> If u like anime/manga, or you've got some other, crazy hobby, you should
be able to deal with the consequences (gossip, being offended)

sad but true.
BUT - Each to their own - Live your life the way YOU want....

Prussia is like a new cardigan: scrapes a bit but keeps you warm.

Each man to his own.

I love anime, & hate when people generally think its cartoons. Its more than that. Its drama's, emotional pieces, comedy, horror, sport etc. all in the medium of animation. I agree with a large number of Rakutenka's points. I love a variety of Anime, from one created for a female audience (e.g. Tokyo Mew Mew (a.k.a Mew Mew Power in the west)) to Hentai. I really dislike when people discriminate that people who like Anime are 'nerds' or 'loners'. This is so not true

I don't mind when people think of anime as cartoons, they are uneducated about the subject so why should they think any differently. I love anime and a lot of my friends thought it was cartoons so I gave them a few examples like Death Note, to show them how the storylines arent for children. Plus I showed them spirited away and howls moving castle and they started asking me for a lend of my studio ghibli.

Think its very similiar to how people always go "I can't read that japanese there" and its actually chinese. Japanese have kanji (chinese characters) and because of that the written can look very similiar just like anime resembles cartoons. Without being educated on the subject they won't know any better.

but yeah it's not necessarily always for kids. there are non-japanese cartoons that are for adults too though...

i don't rly like anime, and i don't get why some ppl like it so much. the only anime that my brother ever managed to make me watch (for over 2 minutes) was hunter x hunter. i'm thankful to him for introducing me to it, was gr8 to watch.

It's not surprising that people discriminate anime lovers. It's the same as book worms, people who watch too much anime or read too many books tend to be quite antisocial and often don't pay much attention (or successful attention) to their appearance, so they tend to get picked on. It's not just outside of Japan. People in Japan who read too much manga/watch too much anime are called Otaku, which I imagine is similar to 'bookworm'. I myself tend not to mention reading manga or watching anime as my hobbies. I find it embarassing to be honest.
