It was a fatal mistake for the Japanese Imperial leadership to start a war with the USA. Finally Japan lost literally all colonies and now is de-facto occupied country.

That means Italy, Germany, S. Korea, etc. should also consider themselves occupied?

Japan is one of the only places I've been where you can see a mix of old and new. Traditions are strong, and technological advancements are too. It's really a place not to be missed.

Yes. US troops feel themselves enough free in a foreign country and violate local law sometimes. Need I provide reports about such incidents?

Is the US considered a hostile force or an ally in those countries?
Are those countries considered under the authority of the US military?
Are those countries under the political control of the occupying military?

MMM, those countries are "occupied", I was stationed in Germany, sure we had to follow local rules/laws...mostly. But I remember seeing a stonewall on some farm with a big hole in it and M1 tank treads tearing across thier field.

Of Course they aren't occupied like hostile occupation, the local economy around US bases loves the troops being there..even if they wave signs at rally's saying "Yankee go home".

Japan has the best military in the world protecting them and it costs them much less than provideing thier own army, so I suppose it's a two edged sword. Being independant means haveing to rely on yourself.

TypsyGypsy; That was just rumer about The US consoladateing with Canada and Mexico.

But these are the questions that define "military occupation". We have bases there, but we are not a hostile military force and we do not have "military occupation" of these countries. Semantics? Maybe. But that is the path to clear communication.
