We ARE animals... The only thing that sets us apart, is that we developed tools, and slightly higher mental capacities..When it comes down to it, most humans revert to animalistic ways at the drop of a hat, given a stressful situation, those primal instincts come flooding back

Hate to break it to you, but rape is not animal nature. What would be the use of mating dances and such in nature? There are recorded acts of an animal raping another. If you've ever seen such on a documentary then you will notice that the animal that is raped acts just like a human that is raped. It feels quite violated and ashamed. Even in nature it is looked down on.

My argument is based purely on the fact that I believe the ability to reason and think rational thoughts are the only things which can truly be described as "human nature".

To sum up what I'm saying... I believe that BECAUSE OF the ability to reason, the perpetuation of the idea that a particular behaviour is innately human is usually used by people who want to justify immoral behaviour.

For that reason... APART from the ability to reason and rationalize our surrounding and manage our biological urges to a degree... no affirmative behaviour is innately human.

I am not arguing that conflict runs against human nature... I mean I agree with what you said before... war can be rationalised... but that does not make it human nature.

To "survive" in the world intellect is as important as physical prowess. How the heck do you think we've come so far as humans? You have a very Spartan outlook on life... it's a shame the Spartans were eventually conquered... otherwise you might have a point and I might take you seriously.

BTW it's irrelevant but I'll have you know that I train almost everyday and have been an active interest in the martial arts since I was a kid.

Our problem right now is that we fail to correctly define what we mean by "human nature".

Hmm....I dunno, Ninja's are awesome for that reason too. But then if I was a samurai, I would despise them because of
their cowardliness of not showing their face before they killed me. haha I hope that made sense....probably not. -_-

Their lifestyle was very neat. They had domestics, nice houses, they were respected and had a very good educations. They were wearing awesome kimono and hakama, they were well-versed in culture and stuff

A ninja was pretty much living in hidden villages and not much is known about their lifestyle.

I choose the way of the ninja.

Samurai being nobility had a lot more responsibility. Ninja were often farmers and peasants and merchants by day. Ninja had a lot more freedom.
